Dissappointed

Yesterday and the day before were tough days for me.. I was brought to tears when I found out I had not made the nuun Hood to Coast team.  I went back and forth in applying (for family reasons), when I decided to apply I was ALL IN.  The month leading up to applications due date was the busiest I have ever been in my career as I knew I was changing jobs.  I posted a heartfelt application (HERE), which I KNOW was a far cry from the creative videos across the Blogosphere.  .

I thought that maybe having the IDEA (SEE POST HERE) that sparked the nuun Blogger teams would give me a leg up in the selection process?? Makes sense right?? To nuun's credit they sent me a nice email prior to the announcement of the teams. Unfortunately the vast number of PNW Bloggers who applied pushed me to the back of the pack.  HUGS and giant congrats to the Seattle Bloggers- Zoe, Ricole and Lindsay you all will represent well!!  Here I am left out because my idea was too popular.. DEFINITION OF IRONY!!

I am trying to put my Big Girl Pants on and take it like a champ.... But I am SAD!!  I feel like the little girl standing on the sidelines waiting to be picked….WAITING.. And it never happens…

I had such a blast last year, nuun took very good care of all of us, we were truly spoiled..  There were some things that I think could have been improved on, maybe I was too vocal about that, not sure?? It is emotional running on no sleep, etc.. and I am not great at hiding my emotions...

BOTTOM LINE, nuun team or not, I have unfinished business with Hood to Coast!!!  If anyone knows a team looking for a runner please let me know :) send an email to TALL MOM CLICK HERE

***Please don't take this post as a slight on those who made the team.  I am excited for EVERY runner who nuun has selected, they earned their spots.  Good Luck Ladies!!

You need to come try the Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay here in Utah, it is one of the best :) (it is the first of the Ragnars)

I'm super bummed for you. I did think it was weird that you didn't get picked since it was your idea in the first place. You will find bigger and better things!

I'm just south on I-5 in glorious PDX!

I live in New Hampshire.

We have a similar relay called Reach the Beach from Mount Washington, NH to one of the beaches on our 18 miles of coastline (I'm not sure which). Most of my friends are trail runners so no one ever wants to put together a team, and I never get invited by my road acquaintances.

Our town is quiet and we like it that way, but it is famous among Reach the Beach runners for the middle of the night soup at our fire station.

You are so honest in your post. I know there is a web page where HTC teams are looking for members to fill out their teams. Every year I hear of teams that are short runners (people start scrambling in July and August). I'll keep my ears open for you.

Oh, and I'm in Albany, Oregon.

Reader from Grand Rapids, MI! And so sorry about HTC. You disappointment is understandable. :( I hope some great team snaps you up - they'd be lucky to have you!

I know it stings not to be selected...maybe it's possible that nuun just wanted to give other people an opportunity? You mention feeling like the little girl standing on the sideline waiting to be picked and not ever being picked...but you DID have that amazing opportunity last year and no one can EVER take that away from you!

You have been afforded some amazing opportunities via your blog and I'm sure you will continue to have them...maybe even bigger and better than you yet even realize :)

What?!? I am sorry. That is just wrong that you did not get a spot. Seriously. A lack of loyalty to best and most supportive advocates have a way of coming back to bite companies in the butt. I hope you find a team to run on. Good luck!

Mel- I can't even imagine the disappointment you're experiencing (completely justified)!! I am so sorry. I know that you'll find a rocking HTC team and kick some asphalt this year!

I'm a Seattleite living just North of Atlanta in Marietta, GA. Let me know if you ever hit the ATL for business or pleasure, I'd love to meet you! I actually went to Jr High and High School in Kennewick, you probably went to Gonzaga with some of my classmates! I opted to move back to Seattle and go to UW. I bleed purple and gold down in UGA country...

I'm so sorry you won't get to join in this year. I can only guess at the volume of applicants they had to sift through. I'd like to think that they gave the opportunity to "new" runners so that more could enjoy the experience?! But trying to put a positive spin on it doesn't lessen the sting of not getting in.

As I sit 17 sleeps away from my potential first 100 mile race I am number 18 on the wait list. The sickness and nerves that have taken over me, I am hoping are the result of the "not knowing." I will remember your kind remarks to all that got onto a Nuun HTC team if I don't make it into my race. I won't let it ruin my year. I won't let it dampen my desire. Thanks for, as always, being a great example!!

I'm in PA now but moving to VA. Opps. I haven't offically announced that in blog world yet. You got the inside scoop!

Many Hugs Mel!

I'm sorry you didn't get in HTC. You shouldn't feel bad for feeling a little sad about it. I would too and there are many other bloggers who applied and feel sad. You are not alone.

Wow....I am so sad you didn't make the team. I loved reading your recaps from last year. Here's hoping that an awesome team invites you to join soon.

I am from Auburn, Alabama and love hearing about the awesome running weather you have!

I was really sad to read that you weren't on the team this year. I didn't apply because I was afraid of feeling the way you are. Those vans will really miss out having an amazing person on their team this year. I would love to run a relay with you one day, the way you juggle your incredibly busy life is such an inspiration to mothers.

KY (i answered this on your facebk page as well) Your blog is one of my favs and i've been following for about a year.
That stinks about not making the teams -- I could understand more if they wanted to give this experience to ALL new bloggers, but i'm certainly surprised you aren't on there again with some of the other repeaters. =( I follow some of the bloggers on the list (but not all) and one thing is of the 5 or so blogs that I read EVERY post, yours is one of those...and the others aren't so much. (when the titles sound interesting or like something that pertains to me, i DO read 'em if any of you are listening!=) In other words, here's one runner who won't be hearing as much about nuun this year! runner_girl5k at yahoo dot com

Will you apply again if they do it next year? I will FINALLY be able to apply (I hope), and would love the chance to be on a team with you-even if it is a slim chance. :) If I had any relays planned right now, I would love you to be on my team!

On a separate note, it's fun to see how many readers you have in Ut!

So sorry you aren't running HTC this year with Nuun. Especially when you are the one that started it all. :o( You must be asking "why" and may be feeling empty. You still may be able to be apart of another team! Thanks for being so honest in your disappointment and thanks for inspiring us all.

I'm so sorry, that feeling sucks and your entry WAS great!! You will bring great things to whatever team you join and they will be lucky to have you! Don't worry about your complaints from last year, there were lots of problems and we all voiced at least a couple!!! Big hugs! I'm from PDx! :)

I'm still kind of in shock they didn't pick you. Not used to cool girls standing on the sidelines with me. ; )

Just wanted you to know you're on my mind.

Christy MyDirtRoadAnthem said...

Bummer on the HTC, I liked your entry way more than some of the other girls who did it last year and made it onto the team. I was an alternate last year and loved following everyone journey on the nuun teams last year even though I was like the unwanted stepchild of the bunch :) I thought you would be a shoo in.

Hope you find a team to run on, I will be there running on Team Beef Montana, maybe I will get to see you along the way.

Love your blog, I am a golfing, running, 36 year old, tall mom (6'0") to two kids (3 & 4), and wife to a mountain biking husband.

I hope some of the ladies they picked are moms, are in their 30's, and/or are "average" runners...it is wonderful to see everyday people do amazing things! Make your own team!!

You're awesome, Mel, and I feel certain you'll find your way into HTC.

From your house, go east. A LOT. And then some more. I am in Orono, Maine (pronounced "OR-no"). My favorite local(ish) race is the MDI Half Marathon in Bar Harbor, ME on beautiful Mt. Desert Island. You should definitely come experience running in Maine in the fall (it's already full for 2012, though). I think I found your blog through Emilie at OneMominMaine. I've been voting for both of you for the top outdoorsy mom bloggers. Love ya!

I'm sad about not making the team as well...my blog hasn't been around for very long and I knew that living in the Pacific NW would count against me. (The 4 ladies I know of from the Pacific NW who made the team had really good applications and I think truly deserve the spots they earned...but I can't say the same for all the ladies on the team).

I'm guessing that you're asking about where people live because you want to point out to Nuun that it doesn't matter WHERE you live...you have readers everywhere. I fully agree with this...I have only lived in the Pacific NW for 6 months, so I'm pretty sure that my only readers here are other running bloggers. I have lots of runners from the other places I've lived - Los Angeles, Miami, and Minneapolis. Oh well!
