I LOVED THE SILVER GLITTER ONE!! I love bright stuff!! Anything that sparkles and shines. It makes up for my shy side. Underneath I am adventurous and fun, so I like my style to show that. I would love to see a post on running during the monthly women cycles. How do you run during that time of the month? How do you cope with heavy periods and running? That sort of thing. That is something I enjoy getting advice on, especially as I get older and my hormones are a mess. I get super sleepy and for two days when my period starts I can not run due to the massive overflow.:( As for an interesting comment about me. Well, it is something I write about a lot and one of the reasons I run. I am a rape survivor. I was raped at the age of 16 and suffered severe PTSD and depression after it. A counsellor introduced me to running and it has literally helped me survive and feel strong. It has been 20 years since that time of my life now and I can honestly say I would not be here if it were not for running and the support I have received along the way. So I write about my journey often to help others and let them know they are not alone.

I would love to win this band to try it out on my first half marathon August 14th!
I have a 10 month old son and was looking for motivation to get back into shape. I told my twin sister and best friend that I was going to sign up for a half marathon and they signed up, too! So, the time has finally come to pick out what we are wearing and based off your post about your sister and running, we have ordered CUTE skirts and will be matching! After wearing the exact same outfits at our first tri a couple of weeks ago, we had decided it was fun to match and to get all of the questions regarding if we realize we are identical :D I would love to surprise my sister with matching headbands! Thank you for sponsoring this giveaway!

I'd have to go with the Fun Paisley! I have a friend in Atlanta that I race with twice a year and we have an inside joke about paisley. Seeing that reminds me of her!

Hmmm my question or idea for a future post: Running Nutrition! I am having such a hard time trying to figure out nutrition for runners, not just on race day but lifestyle.

I would go with flower power!! I had my thyroid removed in late September and I am just now trying to get back into running and exercising because I am just now feeling more myself. I just started a blog this July to get myself motivated and hopefully motivate other people. My mission is to help others who are struggling to get back on track whether they have a thyroid or not!!! I guess to give people a sense of hope. That's why I would get the flower power one, to remind myself that I have the power to accomplish my goals and hopefully help others accomplish theirs ;)

A topic I would LOVE to see you touch on has to do with mentality. So many of us put countless hours of our time training for races / competitions. We work on our endurance, our speed, and our strength- yet one aspect that is huge in a race is our mental toughness. When you're hurting, miserable, or just plain old tired during a race, its our mind that determines if we decide to push through or succumb. What do you recommend for starting to train our mindset to become just as tough?

something about me-
When I was 20 I contracted an aggressive cancer strand from HPV and over the course of 1.5 years had many LEEP procedures done but it kept coming back since the virus wouldn't go dormant. Age 22 was told it would be unlikely I'd be able to have kids since my cervix was so thin from all the procedures- that mixed with cancer not going away it was advised I have a hysterectomy. Scheduled an appointment for 4 months out- did my own research and found a doctor in the carolinas who experimented with cervical cancer cells treating them with ellagic acid. On a whim I changed my diet completely, added in foods high in ellagic acid, stayed away from alcohol and sugar, and just prayed. When I went in to have my procedure the cancer had shrank and was told that my lining in my cervix was slowly growing back. From there I decided to go into nutrition field and have been helping people heal themselves all naturally with foods ever since. I'm 27 now, cancer free, although no kids yet, I now have the ability to have them!

About me: I am currently growing out my hair from a pixie cut, so I need some hair wrangling accessories! I have very thick, curly hair, and I have kept it short for several years. I love love it short, but it means I have to get it cut so much more often that I have the time or interest for. And so, I am growing it out. Right now it is at an awkward adolescent stage. Boo.

Here's my question for you: How did you get so fast? I ask because I'm 5'10" and a muscular 170 pounds—in other words, a big girl—and while I have tons of endurance, I've always been pretty slow. And when I look at the typical runner I see at races, I always figured that part of the reason I'm so slow is that I'm several inches taller and 40 pounds heavier than they are. But then I look at you, two inches taller than me, maybe(??) within 10 pounds of the same weight, and you are kicking all manner of ass. Besides cute skirts, what's your secret??

Laura Erin said...

I would love to see a comparison/improvement post. Tell us from when you first started your journey as a runner (post sports) and how much your training, running, life has evolved from then to now. Seeing improvement, whether it be in yourself or others is the number one motivator for me. It makes every day worth it!

Laura Erin said...

My question for you is How do you manage/plan your runs at work? I would love to be able to do this, but then I think about how I would have time to change, run, unstink myself, and change back into work clothes..how do you do it all? Do you shower afterwards? What about your hair - does it get wet from all the sweating? Im amazed that manage it all and would love to know how to do it. And...what do your co-workers/boss think about it? Do they support you?

Something aout me: I got my height early -- so I was about how tall I am now (5'7.5") in the fourth grade. My nickname was "hightower" and I was very self-conscious about my height (although I had the advantage in tetherball games). I wished I was small and petite like other, more popular girls. Everyone caught up (or passed me) by junior high!

Interesting thing about me...not sure I can compete with what's already on here. I was over 200lbs in HS and lost about 50 pounds my senior year in HS and while playing Rugby in college. Raced bikes after college (about 120 or so races) then gained all the weight back in the early 2000's. 2008 I started dieting and lost 60 pounds in 10 months, started doing triathlons and now fully in love with just running! I've been "just running" for about 2 and a half years and am training for my first ultra on October 2nd.

My question is answered by your opinion of what makes a real runner?! Someone who can run 5 miles without stopping? Someone who runs daily? Or who has run for years? Or is a real runner someone who loves the sport? I struggle calling myself a runner because I just started six months ago and have been doing the 5:1 ratio. Although I have run a few 5k's and 2 half marathons. My friend and I joke that you aren't a real runner until you have lost a toenail!

Question: What is your typical warm up routine before a run?

Sara said...

Something about me: I am currently training for a sprint triathlon in September. I started my training in January at over 300 lbs. It was a workout to walk 20 minutes, bike a mile and swim 2 laps at the pool. Now I'm "running" 2 miles at a time, biking between 10-15 miles and swimming 24 laps on a regular basis.

People are starting to notice my weight loss. I haven't been dieting, just adding this extra exercise into my life has lost me about 30 lbs. I still get looks from people when I mention I'm training for a triathlon because I'm still fat. I'm sure people think "Really? A triathlon? I thought that was for skinny people" and they are right. I'd say about 99% of all triathletes are skinny. But I'm out there and I'm trying.

I have the most trouble with the running, but I'm working on it and i'm not giving up. I've even signed up for the Disney Princess Half Marathon in Feb 2012. Crazy for me!! But I've committed. I don't care if I have to walk most of it. I'm doing it and I'm going to do my best. Maybe in 2012 I'll sign up for your 1000+++ club. And maybe I won't be ready until 2013, but the fact is, no matter how slow I'm going, I'm still lapping everyone who is still sitting on the couch!

Looks like I am a day late and a dollar short....but today is my birthday, so I thought I would give it a try anyway :) I like the bold flower power thick band.

I liked it on facebook, I am leaving a comment, and I will tell you a kick ass running story. You ready?

I ran my first marathon with Team in Training in June of 2010 in San Diego, CA. I trained for months and dedicated my run to Brogan (my best friends nephew with brain cancer) and was ready to hit the payment. I was tripped at a water stop around mile 5, was immediately picked up by a fellow runner, and thought I would be on my way. I took my first step and immediately knew my foot was broken. I told myself I could stop and no one would blame me, but the fierce competitor inside me wouldn't let give up. Instead I walked my way to the finish line, yep 21 miles on a broken foot! I cried and yelled a lot along the way, but I finished a goal I set in front of myself and have become a better person because of it.

Needless to say, I now have a nice piece of metal in my foot and had to be on crutches for 16 weeks and in a boot for 4 more weeks after that. It took me months to get back to exercising, but I ran a half in April and I am running a full in November. Go TEAM!!
