This is BUTT

I got my hair done on Sunday, cut and colored darker.. Yesterday I posted the photo on Facebook. I had on one of my favorite shirts but did not think about the words and how my hair would frame them..My buddy Amanda HERE caught the wording, she replied in a comment and I was laughing so hard I was crying!! Getting my hair done is the start to a change for me because to be completely honest THIS IS BUTT..

  1. In 2011 I have not pushed myself to be the best I can be, I have performed but not with my full heart.
  2. Today would have been my Dad's 60th Birthday, instead of a celebration we will be going to the cemetery.
  3. I have been sad about losing my Dad and sad seeing my Mom and family struggle, I have used that sadness to allow myself to eat more than I should and to be lazy.
  4. This has resulted in my weighing 10-15 pounds more than I should.
  5. My birthday is one week from today, I don't feel like I have earned the right to eat a piece of my own Birthday cake because I feel gross.
  6. I am sooooo BUSY at my Big Girl Job that I have not been able to run mid day, I continue to eat like I am putting in Marathon miles.
I may hide it pretty well, but overall 2011 has been tough (BUTT) for me... Since Boston training ended I have been wavering, running barely, and just feeling mucky...

Getting my Hair done was the START...

Last night instead of sulking on the couch we....

  • Put in the 20 minute Windsor Pilates Video that Kim HERE gave me Ages ago. We moved the couch, vacuumed :) and got to work. Little Stud #1 joined Muscle Man and me during the 20 minutes. My core is FLABBY!!! I used this same 20 minute workout religiously before our Wedding over 8 years ago, so I remembered most of the exercises. I swear I got a better workout laughing at Muscle Man and his lack of flexibility and Little Stud with his comments.. Pilates Video "You will do 3 of these" LS#1 "Oh good only 3." I will be doing this and the longer workout more often to get my core back

  • NEXT up Running.. I was tired, I wanted to sit, it was 7:45PM..... But I NEEDED to run, so I set out. My goal was 3+ miles at sub 8 pace, picking up the pace helps kick my metabolism in gear and I wanted to get back before it was too dark. I felt strong the first mile, the second mile came the HILL I sprinted up the hill and started to feel tired. It smelled like BBQ and dryer exhaust. I reminded myself that it would only hurt for 12 more minutes as I hit the mid way point. 5K time 23:52, not too shabby but nowhere near racing shape with 5K season here!! I ended strong with 3.5 miles and 7:57 overall pace. I was SWEATING BUCKETS!!
Yes sometimes things are BUTT.... When that happens lace up your shoes and put on your KICK BUTT shirt. I am on a Mission to Kick my own Butt back into shape and back to how I want to feel. No more excuses and sulking!!! I have been told that I Inspire people, it is time to live up to that..ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!

There is no doubt that in no time you are going to be kicking butt and taking names!!!

I always say I'm going to but on my big girl pants and do it!! You have been through a lot this year and have continued to inspire so many!

Great attitude! Way to get out there for those 5K :) We all go through days/weeks/months/years that are BUTT, good for you for making a decision not to let it kick your butt anymore :)

I bet your dad would have wanted you to use today to turn that corner.

Your hair looks great--time to kick some butt!

You totally kick butt!! When I first started reading your post, all I could think about was my favorite line from Finding Nemo... "I'm gonna touch the butt!" I hope you've seen it and know what I'm talking about. :)

Great hair! Love the shirt framing it is just what you needed to get out there and kick butt.

Because I am like 5 years old, I kept laughing every time it said BUTT. It's one of those days.

I know you will motivate yourself to get where you want to be. You've done it before and will do it again! Hugs!

I love your hair Mel it looks great.
I know you will be kicking butt soon. Sometimes you have to let yourself have some time to grieve and be sad, but then it is time to get back on the train. You will get there before you know it!

I love that you turned an entire post into a "BUTT" theme. ;)

I'm thinking of you today and know you have been a rock to your family. No one would expect a smooth transition when dealing with the loss of your father. Hugs to you.

Sounds like you are really making a turnaround and kicking BUTT instead of feeling like BUTT! You are awesome Mel!!

You are amazing, Mel. Don't ever forget that. I hope you enjoy your family time today.

hahaha! That picture is too funny! Your hair looks fabulous by the way. :)
We all hit a point where we need a kick in the butt, it's nice when we can do it ourselves instead of getting it from someone else, and the fact that you've done just that is one of the many reasons you are inspiring!

you look great mel and it's been such a rough year for you. i think the hair is a perfect way to start fresh and you sound ready and determined. go get 'em!

Your picture put a smile on my face. So funny!
I think often we women put HUGE expectations on ourselves only to be followed by dissapointment. You are awesome and don't let yourself think any less!

Getting out there is a great way to honor your dad :) He would be so proud. It's such a tough loss... I've been there... it's beyond BUTT. But... we pick up and get going and kick our butt's, knowing that dad is still proud :)

Go, Mel!

When we're in a "bad" place the worst thing to do is say bad things to ourselves. Sometimes we just need to grieve, yell, and hash it out until it's better. You're a great inspiration to other's, I get so excited to run just so I can log my miles on the spredsheet and feel that sense of accomplishment. Keep inspiring yourself because you are worth it and you are amazing. :) Loved the hair cropping it made me laugh.

Great post Mel! Leave it to you to turn an inspiration post all about BUTT! Hugs to you today! You are awesome and we all know it... sometimes we just need a break!

I'm pretty sure that getting hair done is the best way to start anything (your hair is tres fab by the way). Best of luck getting back to where you want to be! Also, I might have to start saying "This is Butt."

5 Miles Past Empty said...

MEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! I <3 YOU! You are amazing and you have no idea how much butt you kick on a regular basis. So yeah, I'm just gonna go out and run a sub 8 5k. Right...I did one mile sub 8 yesterday! That's all I got. So what I am trying to say is that you are awesome, you are in good condition, and despite the extra pounds you are healthy (so eat a piece of bday cake for crying out loud!). And you know that marathon running/training really messes with one's appetite. It makes people hungry. All the time. Marathon training isn't really a good way to lose weight. 5k training and running, yes. I believe that is a good kick start to metabolism boosting! You will get this under control! All of it! Your running, eating, weight, emotions and spice for life! You can do it! You will do it! Don't be so hard on yourself! You have had some major ups and downs and you are handling them all with grace and you are tackling them, one by one, day by day.

Now go kick butt with that bad-A hair do!!!!!!

P.S. in that last picture it looks like a dump truck had a terrible crash into your fence! I hope everyone is alright! =)
