GREAT things in Tall Mom Land

I know you are TIRED of us all asking for votes but pretty pretty please head over HERE and like me :) I have dropped out of the top 10 and would really like to stay in there.. THANKS!!

This week I don't have Running to report this week. Sadly I caught a cold on the plane, the weather here is soggy so running in the rain would not be good for my cold. Also I have had very strange Calf cramping on my left side. It balls up in the middle of the night then is tender the next day. I am not sure what to do about it?? Has anyone had this sort of thing? Should I worry?

There are a few GREAT things going on in my world that I am really excited about!!

  • I am planning a Blogger Meet up for Seattle Rock N Roll on Friday June 24th at Old Spaghetti Factory South of Seattle. If you will be in or around Seattle for this race and would like to come please email me (tallmomontherun @ hotmail). I will be sending out E-vites soon!! Amanda HERE, Harmony HERE and Emz HERE will be here for the race, super excited about that!!

  • Hood to Coast could be a reality for me this year!!! Cant give the details yet but I love Nuun HERE and I hope they will love me back :) I have been Jazzed about this relay since seeing Hood to Coast the Movie last year. Full details, for those who don't know, soon...

  • As the Blogger Ambassador to See Jane Run Seattle HERE I get the pleasure of hosting a Giveaway for a FREE entry to the race!!! Look for the Giveaway next week ladies! For those who are already signed up maybe I will plan a Bloggy meet up....so let me know if you are interested.

  • My Little Brother-in-law is getting MARRIED this weekend!!! I have known Matt since he was 12 and seen him grow. It will be such a treat to see him marry his beautiful bride and start their new journey together. In Bloggy land Miss Bethany and Ryan of Our Love on the Run HERE are Getting married tomorrow!! Head over and wish them Happy Wedding!!
  • I am HOPING to meet up with Jess HERE for a Run this weekend on the Eastside in my old stomping grounds. Will be GREAT to run on my old trails past Gonzaga and along the river, and to spend time with Jess we have formed a friendship through texting so would be good to hang in person.
  • WINNER of the Reader Thank you Giveaway is JUDY @ Ran Run Running Judy please email me and I will get you in touch with Outside PR to claim your prize.

  • I had a Date with Muscle Man last night. Tall Grandma had the boys and we stayed in and shared a quiet Lobster dinner. We relaxed watched a few shows on DVR then went to Lowe's to look at wood floors and other projects for the summer.. It was a NICE DATE!! Thanks Mom!!

  • LS #1 had his Kindergarten Assessment this week, although he did not do perfect he did GREAT for someone who is not used to being in a room alone with a stranger. I am PROUD of him and can tell that he will be very successful in Kindergarten next year. The idea of letting my baby out into the Big Bad World is scary, but he is ready.. Am I?? Not sure yet!!
  • While I was in Europe my good buddy Marlene HERE and her hubby Mark both Qualified for BOSTON!! This is a huge case of I TOLD YOU SO! Marlene and I ran Rock N Roll Seattle together last year, probably my favorite Marathon ever, I remember telling her that she had the strength to BQ... and she did!! With the new rolling registration for Boston she is a bit worried about getting in, but I know it is meant to be for her.. GO CANADA!! I saw the Canada Sticker above while in Dubrovnik and thought of Marlene and my WONDERFUL Canadian readers.
So so so many GREAT THINGS!!

What GREAT things are going on in your world?? Please share!!

Sounds like the blessings are flowing in Tall Mom Land!!! Welcome back to the US and good luck on getting picked for Hood to Coast! Don't they know how much you rock and how much people love you?! My great thing is that the sun FINALLY came out yesterday after 3 weeks of rain! Ran to the beach with my girl and fed my soul!!!

So cool...and so well organized! So SAD that I won't be able to join you and Jess on a run this weekend. I think I will pout and stomp my feet (if I could) for a minute!

The Sept 11 race sounds fun!! I think that is doable for me! :)

Loads of great on the West coast in Tall Mom land!

Great on the East coast is the weather. Hello Summer time temps, blue skies, green grass and gentle breezes. Great is enjoying all that on a long weekend with friends and family!

I hope you end up getting some tips about your calf issue. I have been having the same problem. I hate waking up in the middle of the night with calf cramps!

I've been voting every day!!! I hope I can get back into the top 25 and stay there.

Can't wait for the Seattle Blogger Meet up. Jason and I are in :) I can't wait for so many of us to get together again.

Hood To Coast has always been my dream. Way more attainable than Boston for someone like me. I hope I get to do it someday. I hope you get in!!!

I was planning on doing the See Jane Run. Maybe I'll wait a bit longer to register.

Have fun on your run with Jess!!!

I'm getting pumped up to run my 4 1/2 marathons next month. I'm pretty excited.

Greats-I registered for a race in July! Wasn't sure if I was going to race again before September and it was freaking me out because I need plans and goals in order to really improve, which is what I want and desperately need to do! I also got new Shoes, and the 4 year old got a new bike since she outgrew her last one in 3 months!!! Good Luck!

Letting your first one go to Kindergarten is tough! There's no way around it, though, you have to let them grow up. :( My youngest is going into kindergarten next year and I'm already crying about it. My baby! *sniffle, sniffle*

Loved catching up with you!

I am doing the SJR - 5K, and the Athleta Iron Girl 10K also!

Exciting stuff!

As for your calf, I was getting a lot of those cramps this past fall...I would wake up with my calf in a ball and sometimes literally screaming in pain. After talking to some people and doing some googling, I pretty much came to the conclusion that I was getting charley horses. And those can be caused by low potassium levels and/or dehydration (most commonly).

Since you've been doing a lot of traveling/flying lately it's likely that you're more dehydrated than you realize. I also have made sure bananas are a regular part of my diet and I think it does make a difference!

Hope you feel better soon!

You are too sweet!! Totally made me smile. Thanks for always having faith in me and helping me BELIEVE. Now let's carry that through just long enough to get me into Boston. hehe

I love that picture of you!

I am trying to keep you in top 10!!!

you're a busy girl, as always! I've been voting for you, there are so many great moms listed : )

My great thing is that I kicked off my fundraising for the NYC Marathon..but, I sprained my foot walking my dog. Was so afraid I had a stress fracture, but it's just a sprain. So that's another great thing! Have a great weekend!

when i was in the boot over the summer and not able to run, i got really bad calf cramps in the middle of the night. PT thought it was my muscles reacting to the inactivity. i find now that after a day off i tend to feel them coming on, too.

I really want to do the Iron Girl again. The 10K was a really nice race last year. I think it would be AWESOME to run in red, white, and blue in honor of the 10 year 9/11 anniversary.

lots of great things going on!

Voted! Looks like you're back up to number 9.

I think kids are almost always ready for the next step before we're ready to send them there...

I've been voting for you!

You always make me wish I lived in Washington- there needs to be more support out here in PA! :(

Super happy for your great thins. I'm pretty happy out here, even though I got a stress fracture during my first marathon, I finished (of course I didn't know what was wrong at the time) but last night I walked 5 miles! Someday I'll be running them again, but for now that makes me happy!

Wow, so much going on!! I love your picture - so powerful and happy! I am definitely up for a blogger meetup in Seattle for See Jane Run. Unfortunately, I had to switch to the 5k from the half because I'm still coming off my injury, but I'm not going to miss the race! Can't wait to meet you!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the wedding!

I am having the exact same calf issues. Ball of pain in the middle of my left calf. Weird. It has hurt like that since my 5K 2 weeks ago. LMK if you solve the problem. I have just been stretching and getting my daily banana.

Melissa Bitton said...

Charlie horse is my guess on the calf cramp. I tend to get them in the middle of the night too and they 'paralyze' my leg...I can stretch it out, move it or walk! Massaging the area helps. Usually it takes a few minutes to relax, but I can have pain in the area for several days. It's typically due to potassium deficiency or dehydration. I almost always have a banana before I run. Try OJ too or a sports drink to replenish minerals.

There are lots of good things going on over here. I am excited for the RnR meet up. It will be nice to meet the people that I have been following for a while. If you do a See Jane Bloggy Meet up I will definitely be there. I am doing that race as well.

Our date night is tonight. We're going to see Bridesmaids. FUN!

Oh, and I get that balled up / tender calf cramping thing. In the middle of the night, like you. It also happens while swimming. Especially in the ocean. I never figured out what to do for it other than lots and lots of tennis ball rolling. That seems to help keep my calves massaged well.

Finger, toes, and shoelaces crossed that I get in Hood To Coast too :) maybe we can be drinking some nuun together!! ;)

So jealous about Hood to Coast! I live in a 'burb of Portland and have volunteered for H2C before (I was one of those people standing there at some ridiculous hour in the middle of the night letting people know they were almost done and they weren't lost). It's awesome and inspiring.

I've had the same kind of calf cramp issues, too. I thought it might be hormonal, but my husband had it, too! Then we thought it might be change of weather, but not really. For the "just in case" scenario, we've been loading up on bananas, making sure we have plenty of calcium and magnesium in our diets, and are drinking plenty of water and/or electrolytes. We each have a small container of an electrolyte drink on our night stands which has actually helped with the onset of a bad calf cramp in the middle of the night. You're probably already paying close attention to what you're eating and drinking, but I thought I would share what we've been doing. Take care!

Regarding the calf cramping thing, I agree with everyone who suggested making sure you're well-hydrated. Suck back some Nuun or G2, baby! And I guess stretching never hurt, either.
