ME and my Family

I had options to run with my buddies on Saturday.. but I knew I NEEDED to go SOLO. Most of my Long Runs have been with my Running Friends, on the Treadmill or FAILED solo attempts.. When I run with friends I stay half a step behind and let them set the pace. Saturday I wanted to run for ME.. Speed up when I could and slow down when I must... I slept in and got to the trail in my own time.. It was also Boston Dress rehearsal.. In my new Red Dot Athletic Running skirt and Visor, my Moeben Sleeves are on the way...

I set out with no other plan than to TEST ME.. It was chilly and WINDY!! When the wind would gust I would speed up, fighting the elements. Half way I stopped to take a Gu, then set back out.

Half Marathon: 1:47:11!!

I see a few guys training on the trail nearly every week, I consider them friends as they have a genuine smile and wave every week (they probably think of me as the TALL lady with the crazy outfits) today I said "What are you guys training for?" They replied "Boston!" I said "Me too see you there," and I gave them a High Five!!

I did and out and back, the way back is slightly uphill the WHOLE TIME!! I could feel my legs tire and my mental capacity tested. But I pushed on. If I could go back and do one thing differently with this training I would incorporate HILLS.. I am still a big Scared about the HILLS in Boston miles 17-21.. But hey it is a CHALLENGE and I love CHALLENGES!!

SO PROUD of my speed, form and consistency today. I connected with ME, now any fears I had to run SOLO in Boston are gone. I have this!!!

15 miles at 8:15 pace, take that taper!!!

Fastest Mile- 7:48
Less Fast Mile- 8:49

After the run I noticed Chaffage under my arms on between my thighs, guess I better re-work my outfit.. TBD.. I was not tired, sore or fatigued...but I was HUNGRY..

  • SATURDAY NIGHT: We had Zoe HERE and her family over for Dinner. Muscle Man made Enchiladas, I had a condiments fail but Zoe and Trav were cool about it.. I loved playing with Goober, she is too pretty. Not to brag but babies sort of love me, I am like a baby charmer. I forgot how much work having a little one is...one word TEETHING!!
SUNDAY:
Zoe and I had planned to meet up for 10 miles, but she texted just before I headed out, poor Goober had a tough night and she had to play Mommy.. (Zoe did get in a great solo run, go cheer for here HERE). With the morning run out I sat and had coffee with Muscle Man, RARE on the weekends for me to be home during Coffee Hour. Later we set out for a Family run.. Perfect opportunity for a few quick photos :)

Love this kid... we gotta get him to ride his bike because he is WAY TOO BIG to fit in the Double Jogger much longer.

Our Little Man was confused about where the camera was..
And my hubby!!! Love him..

When we set out I realized I forgot my Garmin.. No problem, this was a recovery run and we knew the turning spot for a 3 miler. It was chilly so we covered the boys with a blanket and had them all bundled up.. It was nice to chat with Muscle Man, with some decisions to make in the next few months the fresh air brought some clarity. I wanted to keep running but pushing the Double Jogger is tough so we turned. On our way back there was a Runner with a strong stride and a Fuel belt. I smiled, she turned and said "Are you Mel?" "Yes," "I Follow Your blog." I smiled and said Thank you.. and totally goofed on asking her name but she looked familiar but I am BAD with Names I knew instantly when she was Michelle HERE, I follow her blog, Amanda sent me her way. She zoomed to a GREAT Half Training run. Hopefully she and I can run TOGETHER soon, love having so many local running buddy bloggers. Muscle Man got a kick out of my mini-celeb status, "I Cant take you anywhere." hehehehe..

The rest of the day I cleaned my closet, did laundry, went shopping, grabbed Sonic for Dinner and then sat like a lump on the couch... I felt GROSS but needed to get in a few more miles. Muscle Man said he would lift while I ran...SCORE another family workout.. I watched Castle, fought with LS#2 who was begging to go on the treadmill, got very sweaty and very itchy and stopped at 5 miles. All in all I would say this weekend in Running was pretty fantastic..

  • 2 Weeks to Boston folks!!

  • I am going to upload new music to my Ipod so suggestions are welcomed :)

They've started playing Boston Marathon commercials on TV here....It gives me goosebumps every time! Today it got me chocked up! You are going to rock it!!! The hills aren't as bad as it is when they come....and they never seem to end. But it is all downhill once you get to the top!!! You have such a cute family!!!

Hi Mel - I've been following your journey to Boston. So excited for you! I wanted to ask what double jogging stroller you have? And what you love/hate about it? I have twinsies on the way & know I'll want to get back into running once they're born :)

This is awesome on many counts! Your run, your confidence, being recognized on a run, and how well you are going to do in Boston. Truthfully, I don't remember the hills much in Boston...I was so filled with energy and excitement from all the people cheering and sending me positive energy! Funny that I don't remember the hills. I do remember Heartbreak because my husband was at the top taking pictures and cheering for me. So cool and so excited for you Mel!

you killed the run mel!! glad you listened to what YOU needed. it's so easy to get wrapped up in the social opporunities of running. which is fine a lot of the time, but sometimes you need to step away and worry about you. BOSTON IN TWO WEEKS!!

What a great Solo Run. I myself struggle with solo runs.

And how awesome for the whole family to get out on Sunday.

You are going to do so great at Boston!

Congrats on some great runs! I need to be inspired by all you girls. I thought my 16k yesterday was going to kill me.

Can I ask what you think of the Gu? I've had it recommended to me, but I'm afraid to deviate from my Shot Bloks.
