A More Positive Note

Thank you for all the wonderful comments yesterday. Sounds like I am not alone in the frustrated with weight category. Today the scale read 195...back in Onederland :) Hmmm 5 pounds in one day? Anyway I will take it. Seeing 200 was enough to make me realize that I have been slacking with my eating. I want to be more fit inside and out, I have RESET and will get back to my Goal Weight... One thing that really helped when I lost my weight the first go around was speed work.... Picking up the pace shifts the bodies rhythm and seems to speed up metabolism, for me anyways. Funny photo before I set out.

THE PLAN:

1.5- Warm-up.. Took it easy back to my old running trails. It was pretty chilly so there were not many people out. They cut down some of my pretty trees :(

5K Tempo

Mile 1- 7:28 ..Wow that was a bit faster than I should have gone, I may regret that later. I passed a friendly/fast runner I have seen on the trail many times, we exchanged waves. Turned at 1.5 and had heavy wind on the way back.

Mile 2- 7:40.. Was fighting the wind and breathing heavily. There was a faint smell of coffee, YUMMY! Trying to focus on my core and arm swing. Felt like I was staring at my Garmin to keep the pace.

Mile 3- 7:47.. It took everything I had to stay at this pace. I kept reminding myself that it would only hurt for less than 8 more minutes... I could see the Finish, I kept my stride until 3.1..

5K time= 23:40 or 7:38 pace

1.5 Cool-down.. Cool Down is right, once I got to my Tempo mile Finish Line the wind picked up and the ice pellets fell from the sky.. OUCH!! I sped up as much as I could but I gave all the SPEED I had...not much left. I was covered in sweat by the end and my heart was pumping pretty good. This was the run my Metabolism needed to get me MOVING..

  • The rest of the day I ate really well, Rice cake for Dessert anyone?? I also drank loads of water. RESET.
Muscle Man said there was a little package for me... What could it be??
Sort of hard to read... but it is a Silver Note from the Rock N Roll Marathon series Competitor group. Since I ran 2 Rock N Roll Marathons this year, Seattle and Las Vegas, I earned a 52.4 Silver Note Medal. SWEET!!! I really don't have much Bling, so this was a fun surprise.

  • Lori HERE asked a great question yesterday "Where do you find non-running clothes that are tall enough AND fit muscular thighs?" I shop most often at Nordstrom Rack, Target and JCPenneys, because these stores fit in our one-income budget. Other stores which carry Tall/long Sizes are Express HERE which is higher end $$ for me and Buckle HERE which is more young adult but has great jeans. I know there are many online stores for Tall Gals, but I find I really need to try things on. Anyone other Tall Ladies have input for Lori?

  • Do you have any Positive Notes to share today?
HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!

Cool Rock N Roll bling! Great run! Ice pellets? Not fun at all. Trying to get my butt out the door right now to do my own 5K tempo. I love those 5lb 'sudden' losses. who cares how or why, its just not there anymore is all I care about! ;) Cheers to RESET! Positive note: Ran my first race since injury post Portland Marathon on Sunday! 10k and it felt great!

Gotta' love some bling!! haha Think they'd write you a symphony if you ran them all?

Great job on the 5k tempo! Speed work definitely helps with losing weight; it's all about cycling your heart rate - get it up, hold it, let it drop, get it back up, hold it, let it drop...

Keep up the awesome work!

catching up now so i missed the weight post...but i can so relate. i need to focus more on just being healthy and not the number on the scale.

That is some way cool bling!!! Glad you are having a more positive day! I hate those pesky scales, especially when they don't say what I want them to. It can be so hard to focus on the healthy some days. My trainer told me it was going to be so hard for me to lose while distance training but I want SO badly to prove that wrong. Last week I did... this week is a different story already. Ugh.

New York & Co (same company as Express, slightly lower cost and definitely better sales) carries almost all their pants in tall. I buy a lot of pants there.

Way to get your speed back!

The cold...ugh. We had a couple days in the 60's and 70's, and it turned me wimpy for getting out in the cooler weather. I ran in the teens and twenties...I need to toughen back up now!

Nordstrom Rack is the BEST.

I'm certainly not as tall as you, but it's one of the only places I can find jeans that don't give me highwaters, at least within my budget.

That is a pretty awesome tempo run - I set out to do one yesterday and struggle, but rocked an 8 miler today!

I buy a lot of jeans at the Gap Outlet -- they have Long Lengths and different cuts -- I of course, fit the Curvy the best!

For crying out loud WOMAN! That is a redonkulous 5K!!! Holy moly! Great job! =) I am so bad at tempo runs. Teach me oh wise one!!!

Totally awesome bling!! Gazinga!!! =) Love it!! Guess they don't do that for a full rock n roll and a half rock n roll in one year. Cheapskates.

Ahhh what a relief on the scale! The fluctuations are enough to make me go MENTAL! Awesome job "resetting" and hanging out some speed work too!

My Garmin is on it's way!!! This will help me run outside more weather permitting and maybe we could cancel our gym membership!

WELL DONE! Glad you got that tempo in yesterday, looks like you are on the edge of some snow today!

I felt like it was so much easier to keep my weight down training for the half since so much more of the running involved speed! Welcome back to onederland!

Great run! minus the ice.

Glad that your extra water weight skipped town. It's tough to be a girl with such weight changes. But the upside is the reminder to watch the ole' diet.

Your bling is lovely! What a nice memento.

For Lori....

About TALL clothing.....I shop for my casual/workout/running stuff at Athleta but it's very pricy!

Work clothes generally come from New York & Co. They have lots of sales and offer City Cash so you can really get a lot for a little $$. Sign up for the emails and then wait for the special offers.

Good Luck!

Amanda

Your medal is MUCH cooler than mine! I ran one RnR half and one RnR full, so I got a heavy medal, but it's pretty tacky. lol You can see it in my post from last Thursday.

It is Celebrate EveryBODY Week on my campus and for the very first time I am feeling particularly drawn to celebrating it.

Today I followed the trend and left "beautiful post-its" around with inspiring love-yourself messages to remind people that right now, at this very moment, we are ALL connected and ALL beautiful.

You are beautiful, Mel! At any weight, at any pace, at any distance, you are still the spectacular person who inspires us all to get out there and EMBRACE and ENJOY life!

Nice tempo run, Mel! And, I love extra bling. Getting those packages from RNR was so fun! Congrats on your Silver Note!
