What's for Lunch??

I have been at my new office since mid October and have yet to fit in a lunch run... Well during Marathon training I NEED to get in some miles mid day. I was DETERMINED to get dressed and go.. As I took the first step I almost walked into a puddle....it was POURING buckets.. Hmmmm... confirmation that I am a Seattle runner, I just went with it..

The trail as dreary...dark, cold, wet, and a little spooky.. Thankfully I have run this trail many many times.... During the Million Inch Run and Green River Marathon, I have fun memories which keep me moving. My legs were CRAMPING, which is very strange. My music was great, I had lost my Ipod for a while so I missed it.. I passed a few people, most of the runners were male. The run was uneventful, although there was a life sized Polar Bear in a backyard across the river...it looked SO REAL!! Not sure why someone would need a Polar Bear statue, if this is yours please let me know??

There is a gradual incline about mile 6ish, my legs felt heavy...I HOPE I can lose this extra weight it will make training easier. I sprinted up the last little incline and finished right before my car. 7 MILES DONE!! My clothes were heavy with rain, my hair was a matted mess, and I looked like a drowned rat...
The restroom in my new building is not the best for photos, just look at that flash.. I didn't even attempt an after photo, it was too GROSS..
  • My question to you- What's for lunch? Can you fit in a few miles mid day to reach your goals??

I can and I need to! Wish I were still close to you so I could go on another lunch run. That's what I get for procrastinating!

Way to get out there. Sometimes it's hard when you're somewhere new because you don't know the flow of the day or how long it'll take you to get changed, etc. So now you know!

And by procrastinating, I mean scared. LOL! Speedy lady...

That does look a little spooky.. I had rice, broccoli, and ground turkey mixed together for lunch and some chocolate soy milk. Unfortunately, I can't ever fit mid day mileage with my job. I am at a loss for the need of a life sized polar bear. haha!

I've only been running for a year, and I've been unemployed for that whole year. Well, I start my new job in Feb. I start marathon training in late March and I think I'll need to fit in miles at lunch. :O I have no idea how it's going to work, but at least I have you for encouragement that it can be done!

Way to go! No chance for me of a lunchtime run...I either run early or late.

Unfortunately I can't run mid day...I get up at 4:45 every morning to get my miles in :) Running at lunch would definitely make me less tired! LOL!

I loved mid day runs while I had family around for the holidays, but now it is back to early morning, a double jogger or the gym treadmill. Isn't it great though to get out in the middle of the day when your energy levels are still high and get a grate run in? I really enjoyed 1pm runs for 2 weeks.

I wish I could; I get the same 20 minutes my students do for lunch...

Um first of all...You found your iPod!? Awesome!

I am working on fitting my workouts in now between clients and working. It's new for me and tough. I actually took all my work clothes and get-ready stuff with me to the pool. A first for me! It will take some getting used to for sure!!

I had brunch today, which meant no lunch. But, I ate enough calories for two meals. Whoohoo!

I try to get a run in on my lunch break twice a week. It can be hard depending what is going on in the office at the time, but I always come back feeling so refreshed. It is amazing what a little bit of "me" time can do.

Way to make it happen! I'm sure you're after was NOT as bad as you make it sound.

Oh, and I'm not even going to touch the Polar Bear thing.

During the winter months I have to get my running in at lunch. My only other option is running in the dark, using the elliptical or driving to the gym. Since I have a great trail very close to my work and another route that has a hill that makes my eyes tear up that's what I usually do. Lunch-time running rocks!
On my hill route there is ahome with 3 small polar bear statues and the owner dresses them up according to season - right now they are wearing pastel colored knitted heads. Maybe they are related to the people on your route?

Sometimes I get a run in during lunch - it justs takes awhile, by the time I change, run, shower, reapply make-up and dry my hair. But it is ALWAYS worth it! I am going to try and do more lunch time runs during the next couple of months because it is so much nicer to run during daylight, instead of the dark and cold of the early morning.

I'm so lucky to work at a building with locker rooms and showers; located a quarter of a mile away from a running trail! I run with another lady (there is only one other woman runner out of 800 people). Sometimes we hook up with the guys, sometimes we go it alone.

I WISH I could get a run in at lunch. Part of the problem is as a federal employee I only get 30 mins for lunch, the other obstacle is that I work in the middle of nowhere, so even if I had a longer break, there really isn't anywhere safe to go. Maybe someday though! For now I have to settle for early morning or late afternoon runs for my half marathon training!

Yes, I can get in a few miles at lunch and love it. Most everyone is ok with the gross me for the remaining work hours, I look foolish - all dressed up but with a bright red makeup free face and slicked back wet sweaty hair.

I keep babywipes in my bag and do a quick wipe down, after I've stopped sweating too much, I change and do a blow dry and just make the best of it.

TallMom - Do you have to dress up? What's your post-run quick fix to get back to work routine??

I'm new to the lunch run thing and LOVE IT! I sneak out between 11:40 & 11:45 and get back around 12:20. I feel kind of weird sometimes with my bright red face after...but my co-workers all understand and don't ask if I'm feverish anymore. :)

The best part about the lunch runs is how it breaks up my day! My afternoon blows by, I'm focused, and then I get to go home and nap with the puppy. :)
