Nathan Handheld Giveaway

If you are keeping track this is Giveaway #3 in the 500 post week of Giveaways. You still have time to enter the Scape Suncreen Giveaway HERE and Ultimate Runner Giveaway HERE.

I just got back from a 7 mile run. Before I left I tucked our mailbox key in my spandex. Our mailbox is about .25 roundtrip so I planned to swing past on my way home. I will tell you more about the run tomorrow... but I have to tell you the BEST part. When I got to the mailbox there were two bright envelopes waiting. Bloggy buddy Marlene HERE had mailed my family a house warming card and a birthday card for me. WHAT A FUN SURPRISE!! And very ironic that I would get card from my running buddy just after a run. Thanks Marlene!! In less than 2 weeks and she will be a Tall Mom house guest :) On to the Giveaway... Another Ironic thing is that Marlene just did a review of the Giveaway item....

The folks at Nathan are worried about you, with the summer heat they want you to stay HYDRATED. So they were kind enough to host this Giveaway..

WHAT WILL YOU WIN?

Looked around Nathan and I really want to try out a hand held.

Stacie said...

To stay hydrated I always try to keep a nice COLD insulated jug of water with me at all times. If I'm working or playing outside I try to take water breaks often. Keep drinking even if the sun isn't out, you can still get dehydrated.

I am really interested in trying one of Nathan's paks. With my interesting interest in Ultras and trail running, I know I will need to put in longer training runs and hit the trails (if life gives me some running support with the kiddos) and I will need to be able to carry support along with me. I don't want to be forced to do a repeating loop - that makes it too easy to cut the run short. A pak would allow me to run a point to point without relying on someone else to pit me!

plastichurch said...

I love that the holders/handles are wicking. That means a LOT on a long run! They have a lot of fun colors, but the pink is by far my favorite!

plastichurch said...

I am sure to hydrate the day before a long run. Just drinking extra water right before a run doesn't cut it. Also, I LOVE to drink mint water - it's such a refreshing treat that is good for your body!

I always start the day with a huge glass of water. I think it's a great way to start off my hydration and it helps remind me to drink water the rest of the day, too.

To stay well hydrated in the summer and heat I always try to drink water throughout the day before my run. I also make sure I have some way to carry water with me on my long runs, or have stops on my route where I can get a drink. Dehydration sucks,so I stay clear from it as much as possible!

A tip is to make sure to drink enough water during the entire day and not just not just right before or during the run. I try to keep a water bottle with me during most of the day.

I take my water backpack on most runs, especially the long ones. I'm not so great at drinking water all the time everyday, but I have a huge (22oz) reusable Slurpee cup and I try to get through a few of those a day. I find that if I have to count fewer glasses I tend to drink more. And I'm eating more fruit now that seasonal is better so lots of watermelon for me!

I've been taught that the body can only utilize 1/2 cup every 20 minutes, so guzzling down a bottle too fast does no good. It's all about consistency in staying well hydrated!

Rene' said...

I am not great at hydrating, but working on it. Typically start drinking when i wake up in the am and then try to drink every couple of miles during race or training runs.

momof3 said...

Va gets HOT. SO hot that when you're running along the drinks in the fuel belts get nasty hot and gross. So I freeze 3 out of 4 bottles. They don't stay "cold' but, they at least stay on this side of nasty. And it's cool on the midsection on a hot hot day!

To stay hydrated in the summer I make sure to drink 8oz of water right as I head out the door (wherever I am going - all day)...on my runs I carry a handheld or for a longer excursion a hydration pack. Sometimes I will try to stash an extra water bottle on a longer runner route but that can be tricky as "conscientious" people will sometimes throw them away seeing them as garbage.

I try to stay hydrated all the time. With 4 kids it's easy to forget to drink water during the day so I carry a bottle (of water...hehehehe) with me during the day.

The two days before a race I make sure to drink plenty of water and Gatorade.

Best way to stay hydrated:

DRINK WATER all DAY LONG! I've learned all about dehydration the hard way (cramping and puking during a 1/2 marathon). The best way I've found to keep hydrated is to fill water bottles full of how much water I need during the day and drink ALL of it slowly throughout the day.

It helps to buy cute water bottles...it's an addiction.

I LOVE the pink water belt. And, I NEED a reflective vest. I always covet Nathan products when I'm out racing.

I've been lusting after that handheld for a while. It's on my Wants list for Chicago!

runkerarun said...

I keep hydrated by keeping a 1 liter water bottle on my desk at all times. If I feel hungry, the first thing I do is reach for the bottle, since thirst can be mistaken for hunger. It ensures that I get at least half of my water intake while at work, which means better, more hydrated running later.
