Hamstring and Housewarming

This morning Muscle Man, Little Studs and I set out for a short run.... As we set out I knew something was OFF. My hamstring felt tight and hurt. At about .5 I had it and decided to walk. I am not really sure what to do?? Rest and risk being out of shape for the Marathon, or run and risk making it worse?? UGH!! We made the most of it and walked to the Junior high to play soccer.

We then spent the day preparing for a Housewarming/Early B-day party. WHAT A BLAST!! We did it potluck style, which meant GOOD FOOD!! Muscle Man and I made quiche, I will share the recipe this week, it turned out GREAT and was a huge boost to my cooking confidence. LUCKY me all my local running buddy Bloggers were in attendance... So of course we had to take the Photo Opportunity.

Zoe (and Goober), Amanda, Me, Kerrie and Jill (Click names for Blogs). We clean up very nice!!
The Running Pose

We raced and of course Zoe won, even prego she has the Finish Line Kick. I can't wait to do this same pose at her Bloggy Baby Shower in September :)
The day was PERFECT!! After a rainy and grey week, this 70++ day was amazing. And my Mountain came out to greet my Guests.. Thanks to Muscle Man, Mom, Dad, Tall Sister, Tall Brother, Charity, Lynette, Lora, Kiera & Kraig, Katie and all the kiddos and running buddies for making this day so SPECIAL!!
  • I am TIRED so off to bed... But I have not forgotten about the GIVEAWAYS. So look for 2 Giveaways tomorrow.. I am going to skip my long run and hope the rest with help the hammy.

yes rest!! you definitely will not be out of shape for the marathon with all your training, you won't lose it that fast!

I bet a good day off will get you back on your feet monday

I had a similar hamstring issue one week prior to a half marathon. I scheduled a sport massage and I was fine 2 days later and the half marathon went well!!

good idea with the rest. Trust me - one missed run is better than a ton of missed races!

I hope the hamstring issue clears up soon!

I hope you get better soon! I've been battling my left hamstring for the past few weeks and it is NO FUN!

When is your marathon?? I would get some ART (if you can) or trigger point massage, and maybe rest a bit. If the race is next weekend, taking time off isnt going to hurt you.

Better to arrive at the race uninjured than under-trained. And you are NOT under trained. You won't lose your fitness that fast. Rest.

Rest - and if it is still bothering you in a few days, have it looked at. You may have just pulled something, and you don't want to end up making it worse (been there, done that - with my groin).

Rub that hammy with some icey hot! I totally forgot about that stuff but in my track and XC days it was the bomb-diggity! Also heat and massage...

your house is amazing, Mel! Thanks for hosting us! Now, I was thinking this morning that I am going to ask to you text me once a week the view of them mountain from your house when I move...rain or shine, clouds or clear. I love taht mountain! It never ceases to take my breath away. Good thing I dont see it out my window, I would be out of breath all the time! ;0)

I agree with most of the comments, rest the hamstring. Your marathon is close enough that your training won't suffer. Great and fun pics and that is an awesome view from your window, WOW! Happy belated birthday. Have a good week!

Rest, you have put in the work, your body will be ready.

So nice of Mt Rainier to put in appearance for you, it's been really beautiful the last couple of days, my mother had never seen it before on any of her 3 visits, she was surprised :P

rest and get better. you won't lose fitness and you'll still be ready for the marathon. it's better than making it worse and not being able to run at all.

Rest a bit and ice, ice, ice and roll, roll, roll then try it out. Repeat if you need to.

Good luck!

rest!!!! RICE would be good. I also suggest get a massage, or go to a PT, or Chiro and get an adjustment (my Chiro massaged my tendons, sounds weird in writing, just know that it was a good thing for the hamstring/quads).

Looks like SO much fun! Glad you had a great day with family and friends. I hope the hammy is okay SOON! Definitely better to play it safe. You can run a marathon slightly undertrained, but you can't run it injured!

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
