Get Moving Mel

Day 1 of the Moving sale was AWESOME!! We had people going through the stuff before we had signs up or everything ready. CRAZY!! We made $302 and had a steady stream of people all day. What I LOVED was selling my clothing for .50 to $5 and seeing the excitement on the ladies faces.

I was on my feet all day and got some sun. We closed up around 3PM and ordered pizza. YUMMERS! I had to make a quick run to Target for running capris, diapers, etc.. When I got back I sat down, I knew I needed to run 8 miles.

Internal thoughts:

1. You are tired should just sit and relax.

2. Ice Cream sounds way better than a run.

3. You can do it tomorrow.

I sat for about 3 minutes, then got up and went. Sometimes the more I think about it the worse it gets. I told Muscle Man I would be back in less than and hour and a half and set out.

- It takes my legs 2 miles to warm up.

-I NEED to find comfortable shorts or capris to wear for Eugene.

-Stop lights are ANNOYING!! People will STARE like you are an alien.

-Hills make me SLOW, but going down feels GREAT!

-I am ITCHY when I run!! My arms, head and legs itch. Wish I knew what to do about that.

-Pizza is a pretty good source of pre-run fuel, I felt GREAT!

-Spring= Bugs

-Spring= flowery smells

-Spring= Scotch Broom, which I am allergic to.. ACHOO!!

-There were 2 Crows on the golf course, I think they were admiring their Birdie (HEHEHE)

-The rain gently fell, which made me feel cool and refreshed.

8 Miles done!!! And the Runners high was PERFECT. Next up 16 miles on Sunday, 8 with Amanda who is 1 week from her FIRST MARATHON... Soooo excited to run with her before she leaves for OKC.

the itching is actually allergies...either from what is in the air and then on your skin or specifically from the sweat. when I take my allergy meds it always stops.

I agree if I am tired, I can't think about the run, I just need to put on the clothes and go

I definitely need 2-3 miles for my legs to warm up too. Have an awesome 16 tomorrow!

Way to get up and knock out those miles.

I'm a slow warmer-upper too. I always have to keep that in mind for races and make sure I have a good warm-up before and as close to the start as possible. Glad you had a successful sale!

Actually, the itching can be caused by the difference in the temperature of your blood and your skin. This happens to mean a lot when it's cooler out and I'm running in short sleeves and shorts. Your inside is just warmer than your outside. If it's not cool out, I suppose it could be allergies.

Another thought on the itching. We found when we were hiking that when we DID NOT dry our synthetics with dryer sheets then we didn't get the itchy/tingly sensation when we started to sweat.

I get the itching too, I think it might be from sweating soo much when I run. I sweat like crazy, and loose a lot of salts. I think that's why I itch so bad.

Getting out there is half the battle and I agree, the more you think about it, the harder it is to get going!

You're itchy when you run? Could it be from sweat? I have such a big head of hair that when I run or bike my head get's itching, but I know it's because of the sweat running through my hair across my scalp! LOL

people stare because your so hot!!

I get itchy when I run I also turn bright red, my doctor said some people actually have an allergic reaction to their bodies heating up....great not only am I allergic to Everything but also to working out!! :)

Congrats on the great sale. I hope today goes as well!

Biking Sherpa always got itchy when she used to run with me instead of biking.

Living in such a rural area we have bugs! When the farmers spread manure in the spring time we have an area the kids call Bug City because it is so bad. You have to keep your mouth shut as we go through there or you end up with a mouth full! Yuck!

Glad you got your move on!

That Birdie joke was a groaner!

Scotch Broom is killing me too, it's EVERYWHERE. Driving up 405 today I could see tons of it on the side of the road :(

Good luck with day 2 of the sale.

When I itch, it's allergies. And then comes red dots or bumps. not fun

Mel, how you got yourself to run 8 after the moving sale is beyond me. You're so awesome. I have allergies too and luckily they didn't bother me too much running the park today. Love moving sales, I try to donate my old clothes once a year and it feels so great getting rid of stuff!

Woohoo for making some nice moola at the sale! And, congrats for getting out there for your run. I probably would have stayed home and relaxed...so good for you! :)

I get itchy too, but it's usually just on my legs. Like others have said, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my body temp. or with my sweat. Regardless, it's annoying, but it usually goes away.

Good luck with your 16miler!

Yup. Exercise-induced urticaria. I get it all the time. Seasonal allergies make it worse for me. But I can also get it due to overheating (hot tubs do it too) or from wearing new clothes that haven't been washed before working out (something in the chemical or detergent in the clothes). Basically anything that you are allergic to or causes a skin reaction can be intensified when the body heats and you exercise. The best thing is to take an antihistamine daily and I always wash new clothes 1st! Great work on the garage sale!

like a dry-skin itchy feeling? sometimes (mostly when its cold tho) my stomach and thighs get ITCHY!!!! I'll scratch so bad through my clothes that i'll have bruises or red scratch lines that last for days. i just use lotion and it helps. its annoying, but feels sooo good to scratch!

Good job getting on out there, I can easily talk myself out of things :(!

Love your golf joke! Hahaha!

I can definitely sympathize with those internal thoughts, especially the "it can wait until tomorrow" one. I really have to set my run in stone the day before , otherwise I will second guess everything. And if the ice cream thought enters, I usually try to twist it saying that if I FINISH then I get the ice cream wooot!

Thanks so much for the High Five yesterday, the race was amazing! Have fun on your run tomorrow, sending good vibes to Amanda!

I get itchy after runs because my body is covered in sweat.
Taking a few miles to warm up is normal. That helps me with the mental game of some races; I don't count the first miles because I'm still warming up so the total distance is actually shorter. It's all what's in my head, right.
Glad the sale went well.

I don't itch, but my hubby does. I think this is partly why he wont run much, if at all. I love pizza too. Yummers.
I can't/don't run at night cause I always talk myself out of it. :)

great job getting out there! it's hard once you sit down.

that itching thing is weird. never heard of that. but as i sit here going crazy from bug bites in jamaica, i feel your pain.

Way to make it happen. Oh, and thanks for giving pizza the OK as pre-run fuel!

Not an easy feat after a long day on your feet (hehehe). GREAT job getting out there without giving yourself too much time to give it second thoughts. You rock! Congrats on the moving sale success!
