All about BOSTON

Jill posted a FUN "Brain Exchange" today HERE so I thought I would join in.. Will recap my AWESOME 16 miler tomorrow...

Question(s): Do you get excited about the Boston Marathon? Have you ever ran or do you hope to one day run in the race? Will you watch today and if so will it be watching in person, on TV, on the computer? Do you have anyone special running this year? Any great Boston stories to tell?
Will take this one at a time...
  • 1. Do you get excited about the Boston Marathon?
YES!! I have not been a runner long but I understand the EXCITEMENT about the BIG BIG events in our sport. When I hung up my Basketball shoes in college, ending my last season with a knee injury, I thought I would never have athletic goals to strive for again. Who am I without athletic goals? That question scared me and for a long time I felt lost without sports. I was SAVED years later by running. And to me the Boston Marathon is my re-commitment to fitness and athletic goals. I know I can get there! Now I just need to prove it.
  • 2. Have you ever ran or do you hope to one day run in the race?
No I have never run Boston. Yes I HOPE to qualify in less than 2 weeks at the Eugene Marathon and run in 2011 with Aron, and Lacey(??) And anyone else who qualifies, hello mecca for Bloggy meet-ups..
  • 3. Will you watch today and if so will it be watching in person, on TV, on the computer?
I am at work, but I will TRY to check in online. I was hoping to DVD the race but could not find it on our TV.. UGH!! Anyone know what channels will have the race on? I will use the tracker to check out my buddies and their progress.
  • 4. Do you have anyone special running this year?
I listed all my Bloggy peeps on Friday but here is the list. I am sure they are SWEATING and working it out right now.. HUGE HUGS AND HIGH FIVE!
Jill- Birthday girl!!
Spike and Morgan (spectating)
  • 5. Any great Boston stories to tell?
I happened upon a show where a man ran Marathons while pushing his wife in her wheel chair. He qualified for and ran Boston a few times, struggling on the hills to keep the chair and his legs moving. It was inspiring!!
BOSTON!!!
So fun!!
HAPPY MONDAY!

I have no doubt you're going to get your BQ--your training seems right on track to get you there.

I have qualified for Boston many times, but only run it once. Unfortunately, I had a bad, bad day there! I posted about it here: http://misszippy1.blogspot.com/2010/04/patriots-day-is-upon-us.html

That being said, I will probably go back one of these days, maybe even in 2011. I think I have unfinished business there. And I am jealous not be out there today!

I'm at work too! Which is sad because it's a Boston public holiday and I think I'm the only person in the city at work today (besides my boss, grr!)

I'm following on Boston.com!

I am hoping to BQ on May 2nd too. How great if we both do it on the same day. I would love to run in 2011.... wow, could we actually meet someday??? :)

I know you will get the BQ and then some!

I will follow online since I am at work too. Although my brain is heavily distracted so they should have just allowed me to stay home! ;-)

I have BQ but I don't yet feel the draw to run BIG races - crowds bother me. I still like the trails better than the roads. I wonder what the "BOSTON" of trail racing is? I'll have to find out and run it!

Not about Boston, but I just had to tell you that I thought about you on Saturday. At the beginning of the half-marathon I really, really had to go potty. It was almost gun time and the line at the porta potty was LONG! I remembered your post about the marathon when you didn't make time to go at the beginning and, well, you know the rest of the story. I stood in line, went potty, and made gun time! Thanks for that post! I was dry and no potty stops for the whole rest of the race : )

You WILL do it in Eugene and I look forward to that race report!

I am more excited this year about the race than ever before, mostly because I now know what it's like to run a marathon! I did watch a bit of it earlier on Universal Sports. I'm not planning to run it. I think I'll stick to half marathons from here on out, but I won't say 'never.' I have tons of faith that you'll have a great race and will be there next year! You'll have so many people wanting to track you they'll have to cut it off!!

have a great day!

I caught the tail end of the race on tv today. Man, the winners are fast!

Right now my goal is to complete A marathon, I'm not even close to thinking about qualifying for a BIG race.

I have no doubt that you WILL qualify. My spidey senses tell me so! Always trust the spidey senses!

You'll BQ at Eugene. You are so ready after your recent long runs! I hope you have a great time too. I hope to BQ later this year. I posted my plan at http://runningover40something.blogspot.com/2010/04/new-running-goals-and-resting-bit.html We'll see how that goes. Have a great week!

I am excited for you and can't wait to hear about who all qualifies in the near future!
I want to qualify at some point. Maybe next year I will be ready but I don't think I will ever want to do the big race. I may change my mind though....I just ran 21 barefoot so I am on the right track!

You're setting yourself up nicely for a BQ in Eugene. I qualified a few times but have never gone, except to spectate. I'm hoping that this will change this year.
