Test Lab Tuesday

Still sick and asking myself the ultimate question:

Will Running today make me better or worse??

Who knows?? But I am zapped so I am going to take one more rest day and hope for the best.

Today is the day I dedicate to all things I review..

Living, Eating and Running

American Pickers:

The History Channel has a gem of a show all about "Pickers." What are "Pickers" you ask? Pickers are people who dig through houses, barns, yards, estates, etc to find antiques or items of value. During my sick day there was an American Pickers Marathon and I sat glued to the TV. The show is mildly entertaining with the main characters driving an over-sized van and making contact with "collectors," hoarders, and strange old men with long beards who have STUFF. These people have so much JUNK it is unreal!! One man had been "collecting" for 30 years and had 5 acres and countless outbuilding FULL of stuff. And some of them will not even part with a piece of rusting old bike frame for $$$. WEIRD!! It is a History lesson and Psychology class all wrapped into an hour. Check it out!

Clif Shot Bloks:
This could really fall under the eating or running category. I am a Gu Chomps girl, but with so many talking about Shot Bloks I had to give them a try. I tested the shot bloks during my Volleyball game, I avoid trying new thing son the run in case my stomach does not approve. The Strawberry flavor was tasty. I did not like the sticky consistency because the chews stuck to my teeth. I also did not notice the energy boost that I feel once I have a chomp. Overall I give these a "B." Gu Chomps are still my favorite, but since Shot Bloks are more widely available they are not totally out.
IFitness Neoprene Double Pouch (HERE):
The wonderful folks at IFitness sent me a belt to "Test". It is black with pink details. I went all out and wore it on my 18 miler this weekend!! Yes 18 miles of test lab fun.
  • What IFitness Says:
Water resistant double pouch will keep your iPhone or Blackberry safe from rain or sweat. A second pouch will keep your energy gels or keys, separate from your phone. An inner pocket will hold your ID and credit cards safely. Two reflector strips in the front for your night time runs. This belt will not bounce, chafe or ride up while you run.
  • Tall Mom Thoughts:
At $26.95 this is a GREAT value!! I love the 2 pocket concept. I used one pocket for things I would not need while running, Key, phone, ID, money, etc. And the second for Gu, Chomps, Chapstick, etc. Although this time of year most gear has pockets in the Spring and Summer months this belt will be a savior. It did not ride up, I hardly noticed I was wearing it. Comfortable!! VERY COOL!!

Ps. Tomorrow is my 1 year Bloggiversary!

sorry you're still sick.

I saw that show once and I found it very interesting too and had the same thought about how weird some people are.

glad you found a belt. The power of social media...put out a request and you get what you asked for. so cool.

happy blogiversary.

You're being so smart in resting up--I'm impressed! Hope you are feeling better soon. The pickers sound like an entertaining bunch; will have to check it out.

And happy bloggiversary!

I used shot blocks a lot while training for the marathon last year and thought they were okay. the stickiness on my teeth were a bit annoying but I liked the easy to use packaging. I'd cut it in half before and just push one out and into my mouth without having to touch it!

Happy 'early' anniversary!! Hope you feel better soon.

I like the double pouch! It makes so much more sense than one pocket because I know my cell would fall out and break if I needed something out of the pocket. Thanks for the review. Feel better!

Boooo sickness, go away! I hope the extra rest helps.

I enjoy the ShotBlocks, but do find them a little tougher to chew and swallow compared to Chomps. BUT I like that you only need to get 3 for about the same calories as 4 Chomps.

Glad you got to try out the iFitness belt!

Dude! I wish they had the double pouch when I bought mine! Maybe they did and I didn't see it or something. Oh well. Love my iFitness belt!

Hope you feel better. I ran 3.3 miles on Monday thinking it would send you good luck/health. :)

get well!! hope ya feel better soon. can't believe it's a year for you!!! you have accomplished so much making this your home here on the blog, in such a short amt of time!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Clif Bloks! My favorite, but Chomps are a close second. I really need that belt. All my skirts have pockets but when I put stuff in them the skirts slide down.

Feel better buddy!

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I cant wait to finally meet you on Sunday!

Thanks for the review. Ive been thinking of investing in a belt, but I was worried that it would ride-up. I like the concept of this one and will probably look into it! Good idea with the 2 pockets!

Another day of rest will not take away from all your hard training. You are ready for your race!

Chomps are better.

I like the belt. I wish my Nathan's fuel belt had bigger pockets. They should have a light and heavy version or maybe attachable extra pockets for longer events. (I used a pouch with a tight loop on the back to add a pocket to mine)

Happy Bloggerversary!

I have totally been wanting one of those ifitness belts.

I thought you would like the fact that I checked the online finishing results for the 10K from this weekend and I finished 33rd. LOL!

I'm sorry you're still sick, but I think it's wise to take another rest day!

Your post made me smile b/c 1)I watched that show last night. It's so interesting. The thing that gets me is that these old guys that aren't willing to part with any of the stuff will die with all this stuff lying around...it will not go with them when they die. So, why not do something with it now while you have the chance? I don't get it!
2) I love shot bloks! Yes, they are a little sticky, but I have a fix. First off, I cut them in half to make them easier to eat. Then, I roll them in crushed granola or ground flaxseed and they're good to go.
3) I just got the Nathan Speed 4 belt, but I like your belt and I may have to look into it for my shorter runs where I need to carry my cell phone.

Hope you feel better soon!

I have used the shot bloks in the past and did not like how they were constantly stuck in my teeth.

I'm glad you are resting! That will benefit you the most. I will have to try Gu Chomps. I use the shot blocks but they do stick.
I may have told you this but I ALWAYS put Gonzaga in my March madness bracket because I like the sound of the word. How superficial is that!!!

Have fun in your Mercer Half! It sounds great. I am doing a 5K this weekend and glad to be racing!

Cool review. I'm looking for something to carry my phone and things for the summer. This might do the trick.

I love the show Pickers! My Dad and I watch it all the time!

I am a shot block girl. Isn't funny how you get so used to something!

I just started watching American Pickers: my great uncle was on this week's episode. Love your blog!

Thanks for the ifitness review! I'm debating between the single and double pouch, but learning toward the double pouch so I have the ability to run with tiny camera and phone if I want to (fall = pretty leaves when I run through nearby parks!)

I love the strawberry shot bloks! They remind me of the strawberry fruit snacks you can get at Target (Target brand). But a little chewier. I don't have an issue with them sticking to my teeth. My favorite flavor is strawberry! Mountain berry and lemon-lime weren't bad. Cola was not a favorite. I have not tried Gu Chomps yet -- but did get a sample at my half marathon expo a couple weeks ago.
