Test Lab Tuesday

Welcome new Bloggy pack members!! Busy busy week in Tall Mom land so the Test Lab will be quick...

This is the day I dedicate to all things I review..

Living, Eating and Running
LIVING:
Koala Luxe Baby Blanket (HERE):
When I was pregnant with Little Stud #1 my Grandma gave us a blanket. She said that the lady at the store told her it was the BEST!! At the time I had no idea that this blanket would be my go-to purchase for baby showers. Little Stud #2 (our blankie boy) has this blanket in Navy Blue and it is just as soft today as it was when purchased after many many washes. The price tag is a little high $25ish after tax. But for the quality and durability it is 333% worth every penny. Not sure what to buy for a baby shower, now you know :)

EATING:

Recipes:
Now that I have the goal to cook 12 new meals in 2010 I realize just how EASY it is to find recipes. On Blogs, in magazines, from friends, etc.. If you ever need an idea to mix up your weekly menu just tell people! It is amazing how fast you will get recipes. I LOVE IT!! Any bloggies out there have a recipe recommendation email me :)

RUNNING:

Brooks EZ-T (HERE):
If you have followed Tall Mom for a while you have noticed a trend. Nearly every race and many training runs you will find me in a grey, orange or blue Brooks EZ-T. I LOVE LOVE these shirts. Made of high quality dry-fit material, designed with a long waist and very cute style. This time of year it seems funny to talk about T-shirts but this shirt is great as a base layer under a jacket, or over a long sleeve shirt. With fun colors and CUTE Epiphany shorts to match, you too will love Brooks EZ-T's.

TREADMILL:
Speaking of EZ-T's I wore my "Run Happy" shirt on my first Treadmill run yesterday. It was pouring buckets yesterday and I am not feeling well so I opted to run inside with my co-worker I call Zen Runner. I have run on a Treadmill before, but not in a LONG TIME.

Things I liked:
  • Will be great for speed work
  • There are functions for hill training
  • May be a good way to teach my body to run at a consistent pace
  • Avoided the rain and kept my new shoes clean.

Gripes:

  • I felt like I was going to fall off.
  • It is HOT running inside, even under a fan I was baking
  • The Treadmill in our gym faces a BIG Mirror. I do not like watching myself while I run!!
  • With all the bells and whistles I got intimidated and just hit the manual setting, it took me a few minutes to figure out my pace.
  • HOW DO YOU TREADMILL RUNNERS DO THIS? I love being outside.

***Today I am at 38.1 miles for the year and 33 with buddies!! I hope all the 1,000+++ clubbers are recording your miles. With the goal of 2.73 miles a day, by the end of today you should be around 32.76 miles. If you are not don't fret, you have lots of time :)

  • Any new products that you LOVE?? Let me know..

HAPPY TUESDAY!

I love those slogans on those Tee's and have been meaning to pick one up! So cute!

I don't know how treadmill runner's do it either!!! Great job getting the run in though!

haha thats a cute post... PS. do you know the woman in the mirror behind you? I love that she gave you a BIG smile. I bet she was thinking "ummm why is this woman taking a picture of me???" hehe.

PS. I BELIEVE i became a bloggy pack member, but I don't know what that means exactly. Do I need to go somewhere to see messages about it? I didn't see it on my list of "blogs I follow"... Hmm I hope I'm doing this right.

Anyways, happy tuesday! Tomorrow is supposed to have a warm front coming through... hopefully you get one too and can get back outside!

The TM is hugely challenging for me too, but I look at it as good brain training. Good for you for getting it done!

I def would rather run outside... but I dont love the cold weather and snow... so I tend to run on the treadmill during the week and outside for my long runs.

Love the T's.

I am horrible on the dreadmill. I always try to talk myself out of finishing it!! It is great for pacing, but I seem to do better with pacing on the road. I hate being on the treadmill, but I also hate running in the cold. It is a no win situation :-) Have a great day!!

I love Brooks clothing! I have the "Run Happy" shirt too and a great pair of their shorts. They are just so comfortable and fit great!

The treadmill can be challenging, but it's such a great option for winter running. I find it much harder to run on a TM than outside and I actually have a difficult time maintaining my outside pace when I run on one. But, it does get easier! Keep with it and it will get better! :)

I have one of those brooks tees and love it. it's so cute i wear it out. mine says "run happy."

Run Happy. Love it!

So THAT'S the infamous Zen Runner! :)
Feel better quickly, Miss Mel!

I have a secret...I trained for my first run, a half marathon, entirely on a treadmill! I never once, I know crazy, thought of going outside to do my run! Now I go back and forth with it...somedays I dread the mill, other days the thought of layering up just kills me. And it is hot inside, so even if I am at the gym in my house, I only run in shorts and a sports bra - otherwise I die from the heat! I also really, really, really love doing my speedwork and hills on there...what can I say - I am crazy!
Hope you're feeling better! Happy Tuesday!

I have that Brooks T in a slightly different shade of blue. I adore it! I saw it at a marathon expo and had to have it right there, right then.

look who's back consistently in blahggie land?! ME! :) i love that shirt, i really need one. but dicks here doesn't sell brooks. boo. oh and welcome to treadmill running, it can indeed have it's benefits, when i was just walking all of december i was doing some killer incline walks, and wow. it was a surprisingly good workout! WHO KNEW?!

When winter comes around it usually takes me a few runs to get used to the treadmill. It really makes you run at a consistent pace the whole time while outside I tend to vary a little bit. I would say just keep at it and you will get more experienced. its good for those rainy days!

Ugg i am way behind on these miles! Better get my butt in gear!

Julie said...

I will have to get one of those t-shirts! Happy Tuesday!!

I HATE the treadmill, but sometimes it is that or nothing I suppose, great job!

Dion said...

Way behind on the milage. Never thought I would feel defeat in the first month.... :-(

Love the shirts!

I was originally exclusively a treadmill runner, only ever jumping off to run a 5k here and there. Now, I much prefer the freedom of running outside. I totally agree with your pros and cons.

I'm totally going to buy one of those tees!

I run on the treadmill for speedwork. It has really helped me work on my form and keep a consistent speed. Love the products as always!

Baby Blanket - My oldest has it in Green! Love it, best blanket ever!

Recipes - My favorite is this simple crockpot recipe that my buddy Fay hooked me up with:
1 bag of frozen corn
1 can of black beans
1 jar of salsa
1 packet of taco seasoning
1 lb of chicken
Put everything in the crockpot and cook on high for 4 hours.
Serve with cheese in a tortilla or over rice.

Treadmill - I used to hate it, but with 3 kiddos it's often a necessary evil, but over time I have come to love mine. Best place for speedwork. I change the speed/incline every .25-.5 miles to keep it fresh.

love the EZ T! its sooo cute and it looks sooo comfy!

and yes the treadmill sucks! ugh!!! yuck!

and i am at 0 miles right now :(, but thats only bc i have bronchitis.
i will get on that as soon as this is over!!!!

I love Brooks.
I hate treadmills.

Athough my new gym has decent treadmills that make it okay.

Jill said...

I can't stand looking at a mirror when I work out either, I'm way too critical of every single thing! Thanks for your list, I always look forward to Tuesdays :)

It was pouring buckets here this morning, so I went to the gym. It was crowded with the resoluion crowd. finally got an open treadmill and lasted a mile before I was roasting hot! I decided the rain sounded better, and did three more miles outside. Yes it was frezing rain, but still better than the overcrowded gym!

Tom and I have been trading off on being sick, so we are hoping to finally start our training tomorrow:). I love my new Brooks kicks...my calves were sore after running up and down the stairs at the 'Hawks game so many times, but my feet felt great!

Alisa said...

I love the treadmill for tempo runs and speedwork. It does get hot but that's one of the reasons I love it so much--the cold and I do not do well =).

As far as the mirrors go, I just blankly stare and eventually my mind goes blank, it's great and I can think about other stuff than what is giggling in the mirror =).

Love the brooks shirt, I don't have many short sleeve running tops, I may need to invest in one of these!!!

Megan said...

The treadmills tough when your an outside person. But sometimes its all you've got. I'm a single mom during the week and if I want to get run in its on the mill.

Right now, I'm in love with my compression leg sleeves. They're great for recovery of course. But I've take to wearing them around the house as another layer. It's been so cold and I hate to put the heater on too much. We all have sensitive skin.

Happy that you got your run! Treadmills aren't that bad. I always feel like I run faster outside after I run on a treadmill?? Good way to survive cold, icy winters. Love the shirt...stylish as always.

I had been dreading trying to run on a treadmill too. I was so scared that I would fly off the thing. So much dreading it in fact that I planned a late night trip to the gym to try it for the first time. LOL So far so good...good thing I move at a super slow speed..it helps.

I don't mind the treadmill, but mine's in my basement, so I can watch whatever I want on tv.

I'm at 38 miles exactly at this point.

Kristin said...

My treadmill has a pace function too and because of the Garmin I know my "comfortable" pace and I know my uncomfortable pace!
I have to play games on the treadmill to stay on it. I used some from Runners World today. Hard run during the tv show and jog during commercials....

Treadmill running? Only if I absolutely have to because it is absolutely freezing out!

I love Test Lab Tuesdays! I'd definitely recommend any Jamie Oliver cookbook for recipes. Especially his ones after he had children because he often dedicates a part of the book to food for kids and cooking that you can do with them. May help you out with the no TV night possibly? And anything of his I've made has been amazing.

Here's an idea for your test lab. Have you tried Smartwool socks? My favourites!!

I also have that Brooks Run t-shirt and love it! It is one of my favorite shirts! I agree that it is a great fabric!

I have run outside before, but not in a LONG time. LOL.

Great reviews. I will have to check into the Brooks shirts...

I had to run on the treadmill this past Saturday because of the cold and ice. It was so boring. It's definitely good to avoid bad weather and short runs but I'm such a street gal.

I'm with you Mel... treadmill runs are just so bland. I would rather run in the cold and wind and snow, oh yea... did that the past few weeks.
And I am so stoked that I am on track for the kilo-mile year, 42 miles in as of this evening!
Get well soon, Mel.

You should check out Jen @ prior fat girl, she has an E-cook book for 5 dollars! (4 of it goes to The YMCA!) I think it's great you are learning new recipes!! Go Mel!

I do my long runs outside on the weekend, but during the week, I am on the treadmill. On weekdays I don't get my workout in until the evening hours. I am too chicken to run outside in the dark by myself, so my treadmill keeps me safe and unafraid inside! It can also be a benefit if you have to hop off to run to the bathroom! No fun being a few miles from home when the need for a bathroom hits. Yikes! Hang in there with it!

kind of a new "product" but not really- "dailymile.com" i LOVE it!!!!!! please join please please! :)

i love you in the gym picture, you are always smiling :) the person behind you on the TM is smiling, too!!!!! hehehe.

yes, TM is like every time i come back to it i have to get used to it again. i've been on it enough lately so it feels like home. lol. i actually like running when there are a lot of people around cuz i feel like i am probably one of the only "real runners" there (does that make me sound elitist? i hope not). but yeah i just feel like i'm kicking my own butt and other people should give me credit for that.

happy tuesday!!!! i saw on FB you are not feeling well. i hope you feel better soon!!!!!!!!

I have TWO blankets that look like that one - they're from Brookstone though. The "Nap" and the "Cuddle". If you don't tell anyone, I'll tell you a secret. Shhhh. (I'm a blankie girl).

Ask me some time for the story on why I have TWO instead of just one. It will make you laugh. ;)

I was just thinking about ordering one of those T's. Now, I will for sure! Yes the treadmill sucks! I have two fans, one on either side, blowing at full speed and I still end up drenching the belt! It gives you a totally new appreciation for the beautiful outdoors!

Is it too late to join your 1000++ club? I don't know how I missed it... must have been away. Please count me IN. :)

I always LOVE your Brooks tees and I was super excited when I found a Brooks booth at the Disney Expo. Sadly, the only Run Happy tees they had were XS and XL.

Love the Brooks T's! I'm going to have to pick one up before my race Sunday. I have been looking for a cute shirt to race in! Thanks!

Being in the gym and having a buddy on the treadmill next to mine is what helps me the most. Also, I have a product, but it's not a running product.
Last winter when my daughter was under 1 yr, I refused to put tights on her. So I went to BabySnazz.com and bought her legwarmers. There are different brands, lengths, and way too cute styles. I bought her 2 pairs that were too long at the time, and even though she could wear them this year, I've confiscated them as arm warmers. They're cheaper than real running arm warmers and way cuter.
