High Five Friday

When I was running on Wednesday I had a light bulb idea!! For those who are striving for the 1,000+++ in 2010 and are a little worried about hitting the mark, this is for you. Do not end on a "0." Last year on EVERY run I would get to my mileage exactly and hit stop on my Garmin. However, most races don't end on the exact mile mark, 5K= 3.1, 10K= 6.2, Half Marathon= 13.1, and Marathon= 26.2. Soooo wouldn't it be smart to train for the extra .1 and .2?? In just 3 runs you could have an extra .5, do that every week this year....

.5 x 52 weeks in a year= 26 Miles!!!

This may be tough for those without mileage tracking devices, but for Garmin junkies like me TRY IT!! End of idea...

I am updating the Tall Mom Calendar, I realized I am a bit behind, SOOO SORRY if I missed a race that you provided to me. Please send me your racing/events schedule if you want to appear on High Five Friday..

Iffff you're telling me that you're going to stuff R-Patt into a bag I would not so much be against it-- kidnapping and all!!

haha... also, when I went to look up flights for Seattle, I may or may not have noticed Port Angeles is not sooo far away SO the city of Forks that may or may not be real, may or may not need a visit form me whilst in WA. Just a thought...

haha, I always have had the habit of ending runs on a .1 or .2 or .25. I think it's because I am neurotic (haha), but it's IS a great way to add up some mileage@! :) Happy Friday

Thanks for the shout out! And I love the tip about not ending a run with a 0. Whoever said nice, even round numbers were the coolest? Have a good Friday!

very good point about ending in an O, my last run was 4.25 miles...I've got to start uploading my runs to your spreadsheet! High Five!

btw, I had another weird ghost type thing happen to me this week!

How about a high five for patience! It's been a rough week here!

MCM Mama said...

Yep, been doing that ever since I was trying to hit 1000 miles in 2008. It's amazing how much it adds.

Yeah since I dont have a garmin all my runs usually end in .4 or .3 or something cause I have to get back to my apartment so I always end with a little bit more! Hope you have a good weekend!

Hi Mel,
Great idea for picking up a few extra miles:) Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!

Jill said...

So funny you mention that about the miles because I am usually over just a bit and try to make it an even number but that doesn't always happen. As I was inputing the info in my blog I wondered if I should just use whole numbers but decided I ran it...I'm using it. Every little bit helps. Whenever people ask me how far I ran I always tell them exactly...not 7 but 7.25...I ran it...I can say it. I'm a numbers gal.

Thanks for the Shout Out! We had a great time in BDA. My real news today is that I saw my witch Dr and he said...

CLEARED TO RUN!!!

YAY! Now, I can get on that 1000 miles, .25 miles at a time.

Mel ~ great idea. That is way most of my runs are .5 so I can add up all those extras!

I will not make it around to wish everyone a big Run Strong for their events this weekend. Training and traveling will gobble up my weekend time.

So Run Strong everyone and enjoy the journey!

I get a high five for being a military wife, and sending my husband off this week for an unknown amount of time in 36 hours! And tomorrow is my first Team in Training team run! I am raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Great idea too!!!!

I love that my nike+ gives me the miles in decimal points. When I come back from a run my coworkers ask how far did you go, and I give them the to the exact number and they all laugh that I know I went 4.37 ect

I also love that my scale has decimal points so I know how I am doing.

hello hello!
i like the idea of ending with 0.1 or 0.2. that is what i did today. instead of 4 miles, i ran 4.1 miles. and it was great!!!

great idea!!!
hope ur having a fantastic weekend!
