Funny, Friend and Fleet Feet

FUNNY:

When I was changing Little Stud #1 came in the room and said "Mommy you look like Princess Leia when she was with Jabba. Hmmmm only she was not wearing socks." OK for those non Star Wars fans below is the picture that he is referring to..

Considering that after having Little Stud #2 I was a size 18-20 with a sizable belly, being told that I resemble the image above was HUGE!! And since 4 year old are nothing if not honest I know he is telling the truth. Funny how compliments can come in the funniest ways.

FRIEND:

If you have been Following Tall Mom for any amount of time you have met my FRIEND Zoe. We have run together for a few weeks in a row now....I had thought my group training with Fleet Feet was going to start yesterday but it didn't....so YIPPEE we met for another long run.

Stats:
10.01 Miles
8:45 Pace
Fastest mile, the last mile 8:25

It was Zoe's idea to try the 10 miles FAST. Early on we both felt like our legs were in SAND. The Orting trail is slightly uphill going South. Around mile 5 my legs felt lighter, and the miles passed quickly. Along the way we saw, a gang of dogs, portly men on bikes, and BIRDS! I am becoming a running bird watcher.
We stopped with about a mile left...not to take a picture, but this is WAY more interesting than the parking lot.. We stopped for this.
Our good friend the Bald Eagle was perched on a branch just above the trail. This lead to conversation about whether is would be lucky to be pooped on by a Bald Eagle. Not wanting to find out, we took off to finish. I am a start fast and get slower type of runner, so when Zoe had her kick at the end I was having a hard time keeping up. Our last mile was the FASTEST?? 8:25 pace. I LOVE LOVE running with Zoe and am not sure I am ready to give that up for the Fleet Feet training group.

FLEET FEET TRAINING GROUP:

The meeting of about 60+ 1/2 Marathon and Marathon folks for the training group was in the small Fleet Feet store from 7-9PM. I picked up my training plan and the Goal time was 3:47:47?? My goal is to qualify for Boston which means my time goal is 3:40. I may not be able to make my goal, but I want my plan to be geared toward that finish time. So my plan is being edited. From the meeting I got the feeling the group is for brand new runners..

THANKFULLY they finally had shoes in my size. I went with Asics Kayano's again, mainly because I can't afford to get hurt and I have had success with the Kayano's. Thanks Tall Mom and Dad for the gift card!! Training starts this week, 3, 5, and 6 with the LONG 7 miler together. Do you think they would mind if Zoe showed up?? LOL!!

HAPPY SUNDAY!

I hate it when I get all pumped up about something and then I go and it's not quite what I thought. I hope yours ends up being awesome.

What a great compliment! Little Stud is awesome!

Sounds like another terrific run! 8:25 last mile? You guys are too fast! And you should totally sneak Zoe in. Your tall, couldn't she just stand behind you?

Your son's comment is so cute. Definitely one for the baby book if you do one! And you are right, kids are sooo honest! Your run sounds great and fast. I got to run with my friend both days this weekend and it was awesome!

Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog! If you are interested, we have a running club right here in Puyallup. It's the Y Run Club out of the Mel Korum Y, but you do NOT have to be a member to join us. Leave another comment if you want more info and I'll send you to our website.

And...good luck qualifying for Boston! We have several runners that have been or are going, and many of us are Marathon Maniacs, so there are training partners galore!

Great job on the 10 miler! Wish I was closer to do long runs with you guys-I have a hard time finishing fast. Great comment from your little stud-kids are painfully, wonderfully honest. It's nice when it's wonderful and not painful. LOL

LOL at Little Stud!

Sounds like you'll do better training with friends than the group. Hope it works out for you!

Asics Kayanos were/are my 2nd pair of running shoes and I'm planning on getting another pair when I need another pair. I hated trying on so many pairs and sizes to find the right ones, so I'll stick with what I'm liking b/c I haven't had a shin splint problem since I've had them and I don't want to risk injury, either. And I'm SURE they wouldn't mind Zoe coming along :)

Looked like a refreshing long run! Great time too! I am desperate need of a running buddy....on the look out. Many of my friends think I am crazy to even want to run.

I am hoping for a long run this week. Looking forward to hearing about your next run. Loved the park story...so true!

I love the Star Wars compliment! How great! Kids are the most honest people. My family loves Star Wars too. Only my daughter mostly only talks about Luke!

I am so glad you and Zoe are able to run together. It makes it so nice to pass those long miles.

Good luck with the running group. Maybe Zoe could tag along with you with all those members who would notice!

Love it! My son recently told me that I look like "Ginormica/Susan" from Monsters Versus Aliens... not sure where to take that... but, "OK SON, thanks!"

Thanks for the laugh!

It's true that children are honest! Last year one of the 8 year olds I was coaching for Girls on the Run asked me if I was pregnant. I asked more than a few people if I looked "fat" that day. Great job on the long run! You so have a BQ in your future!

That's a pretty cool compliment to get! Recently got new kicks and got my 3rd pair of Kayanos. It's hard to leave something you like!

Alisa said...

Yay for little Stud! Kids are definitely HONEST.

I think you have a BQ in your future if not at Eugene then sometime in 2010!

Yay for running buddies. I definitely pushed myself today b/c of my running buddies. If we ever run together, we can't go your "fast" pace unless you want me to puke at the end =). Hehe.

How cool to live in the land of Bald Eagles! Princess Leia--now that's a great compliment!
Good luck with the training plan--I'm glad you had them edit it!

That is such a nice compliment from your son and you totally deserve it!! Hope you had a good rest of the weekend!

how cute about your son and the picture.... my kids just hit my belly, they learned to NOT ever comment on it... ick, I have got to lose this thing once and for all.

Looking good Princess Leia! I know who I'm coming to for advice on how to lose the baby weight next summer:)

Nice ten miles at a super pace, so much fun! Wow, your stomach is SO FLAT!!

I saw a bald eagle on my run yesterday! I wonder if they are more visible this time of year or what.

So glad you and Zoe have been able to run together. :) Yay for running buddies!

Good luck with the Fleet Feet training, too!

Tee hee. Too funny about the Star Wars comments. My 5-year-old boy also puts a Star Wars spin on everything, and breaks out the Star Wars pop-up book as his icebreaker/getting-to-know-you vehicle. Definitely a nice compliment!

IzzyBubbles said...

This totally makes me think of the old Friends episode where Ross has a fantasy involving Princess Leia and ends up picturing his mom in the process...hilarious! But yeah, it would be super-flattering to be compared to her in that picture!

It's about time for me to get a new pair of Kayanos, am having ankle troubles and am wondering if it's due to old shoes...

Ohmygosh, what your son said is so adorable!! What a sweetie!

From now on I might have to call you Leia! Haha!

I'm going to be the Fleet Feet Marathon training BANDIT!

you are right, there was a lot of sadness when i wrote my post. In fact, I deleted an entire paragraph because I realized it sounded so blue and I didn't want to take anything away from T's race experience. Thanks for your words!
"Athletic Supporter", yes, that will be me!

Your new nickname will be Tall Princess Leia Mom

I love the orange shirt! The Fleet Feet program is designed more for beginners, but I think that you will really like it. You will meet so many great people.

Happy first day of training!

i am sure you will still have fun with the FF group! is it strictly for the marathon/did you have to sign up or pay any fees? i would think it's OK to bring a friend along... but i have no idea.
