Tall Mom Test Lab- Bad Picture Edition

Welcome to Tall Mom Test Lab Tuesday the (Mostly) Bad Picture Edition. Last night Muscle Man and I headed to a FREE "Tour de Lights" 5K put on by the local Fleet Feet. Look for the recap throughout the Reviews..

Christmas Card Display:
This year I sent out Tall Mom and Family photo cards purchased for Costco. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to send and receive Christmas cards, I repeat I LOVE it!! Instead of just letting the cards pile up on the counter or plastering the fridge for the past few years I have been decorating the inside of our front door. It is a fun way to enjoy the cards and decorate the house.
Christmas Lights:
For the past 2 years we have been attending a local drive through park light show, this year it was $13!! Hello really?? So we decided to make it an every other year thing. I remember as a kid driving through a neighborhood where most everyone had AMAZING light displays, I was in awe of the beautiful houses. Someday I HOPE to have that kind of display. For now I APPLAUD those who decorate their houses, adults and children alike truly appreciate it!!

Post Race Grub:
I have decided that post race (or fun run/walk) grub does not have any calories....I know crazy right?? OK maybe it is not true, but the race directors and event organizers take time to put together the food spread, so you may as well enjoy the food, guilt free. In case you are wondering about the BLURRY photo above...that guy ran faster than Muscle Man and me, full Santa costume, possibly a little intoxicated and pushing a single jogging stroller. HO HO HO MERRY FUNNY!!!
Fun Costumes:
There is a time and a race (hehehe) for costumes and a night fun run is the time. I bought the ADORABLE fur topped socks at Target for $5, and since they are snowflakes they can be worn all winter long.. Sorry we should have had Tall Grandpa take a photo with his good camera..
Muscle Man wore one of Tall Grandma's Santa hats, a green top and red undershirt, love that my hubby will play along and have FUN with me. We are total dorks and 333% OK with that!!
"Baby It's Cold Outside" well not too overly cold in the greater Seattle area, but cold enough to chill this Tall Mom. Thankfully my Mom taught me to layer. What you cannot tell from the photo above is that it has many many dimensions. Top: Long Sleeve base layer, red over-shirt, grey hoodie and gloves. Bottom: wool capris, smartwool socks, spandex tights, Brooks shorts, and long festive socks. Yes folks, layering is important, especially when you are unsure of how COLD it will be.
Friendly Surprises:
I adore being surprised! I do not want to even peak at my gifts before Christmas, don't talk to me about my birthday presents, don't tell me where we are going, I want to be SURPRISED!! So imagine my delight when Zoe showed up to the Tour de Lights!! She tapped me on the arm and BIG TALL MOM DIMPLES!! I quickly introduced her to Muscle Man and then everyone started RUNNING, well shuffling.
Then at the end of the RUN my paparazzi clan showed up with camera and kiddos in tow. Thanks Lynette and Tom!!! Maybe they got pictures better than my CRAPTASTIC phone camera.
Zoe's camera is much better, look at the nice photo she took of me and hubby, he was SWEATY.. After the 2.3 mile 5K (LOL) I was not tired AT ALL! I wanted to run more through the beautiful lights, the FUN RUN concept escapes me :)
Karma and Kickin it:
Can you spot Zoe? LOL!! This is after the run, hot cocoa and a white chocolate pretzel in hand, we stood to wait for the prize drawing. Each of us had little red tickets, on the ground within close range of Zoe's tiny Asics was an unclaimed ticket ... Hmmm "Should we pick it up?" Tall Mom "I am not going to touch it I don't want to lose my winning Karma." Folks I am a LUCKY person!! I once won a Ford Pickup Truck by writing my Mom's name down at a prize drawing in Fred Meyer.
Zoe squatted to look at the number "306", just in case... Then we stood around talking about Mustangs, quoting Anchorman, dreaming up GREAT GREAT business ideas and waiting for our numbers to be drawn. Eventually a kid was THRILLED to pick up the "Golden Ticket" so there you go, good Karma!!

Black Diamond Sprinter Headlamp
I diverted from my usual Test Lab format, so I will end with a real review
What the company says:
The urban-inspired Sprinter opens up the dark for those whose running isn’t restricted to daytime hours. This rechargeable streets-to-trails runner’s headlamp features excellent fore-aft balance and a super low profile, which minimizes bouncing and shifting with your stride. A red rear strobe offers safety around cars while a strong, ovalized beam keeps your vision focused on the path ahead.
  • DoublePower LED with 68 lumens (max setting) projects a strong, ovalized beam optimized for running
  • Red taillight strobe for visibility in urban areas with on/off switch
Powered by a lithium polymer rechargeable battery (6-hour charge time)
  • Settings include full strength, dimming and strobe
  • Regulated for constant illumination on max brightness setting
  • Sealed waterproof to 1 m (3.3 ft

Tall Mom Thoughts:
Confession, I don't run in the dark, I am a BIG chicken!! So when Muscle Man told me about the night run I knew it was my chance to test this awesome product the company sent me. It comes with plug ins for all types of outlets which is SUPER smart. Rechargeable with a LONG life battery! Totally light weight and in my opinion ADORABLE (as headlights go anyway). What do you think?

I put the headlight on and Muscle Man looked at me funny and said "The button is on the bottom" Ummm OK?? insert puzzled look. Once we got into the darker areas I turned the light on and was baffled because it was not pointing the ground. Well, apparently you have to wear it the right way, note to self. I need to learn more about the light but overall I LOVED it!! Thank you Black Diamond, my fear of the darkness thanks you too!!
  • HOLY WOW that was a long post. Thanks to ALL for entering the Gu Galore Giveaway, keep those entries coming!

HI Tall mom, did u ever gte anything from our love on the run? we amiled you something last week. i hope it got to you!

This is going to be long ...

OK, so I saw those socks at Target on Thursday and totally thought of you. Funny that you bought them.

Zoe is awesome for surprizing you and she is at the very bottom of that picture.

And "Fun Run" escapes me too. I tried to "race" my Christmas light run last week and had to keep turning around to get my friends!

Finally, I want that headlamp (or one like it) I asked for xmas, but got a Blackberry instead ... I'm so going to use the rebate money from the phone to buy one!

You all are to cute love the red and green, and that head lamp very dainty and efficient is just great. I too am one of those people who aspire to decorate the outside of my house and but have yet to do so, maybe next year. :)

You are not alone. I've run with the light upside down too and was happy when I figured out why it didn't point right.

I love the idea of decorating the inside of your front door. I might just do that now...haha

Love all the pics! Especially the cards on the door idea -- I may steal that. I put my cards on the fridge.

Love the title! You are too funny! I love surprises, too but I have this uncanny knack of ruining every surprise- without even trying!

Love to see others running with their hubbies. Don't you love it?!

Great photo! I love the photos! and costumes!

So great the hubbs plays along with you.

I need a new head lamp. Mine died and the one I am using is uncomfortable after about 4 miles.

Have a wonderful and merry Christmas!

Nice festive wear! There is a new drive through holiday light display near where I live. They are charging $15/car! Yikes. It wasn't even for charity, either. No thanks.

You obviously had a GREAT time!! You and Muscle Man are so stinkin' cute! And, I'm sure you know this, but Muscle Man is a great sport!

I was cracking up about that picture of the intoxicated, eating, stroller pushing Santa!! Too funny!

I enjoyed the pictures, even though some of them weren't perfectly clear. They told the story perfectly.

I like the headlamp! I bet it works great... when it's pointing the right way. lol

Merry Christmas, Tall Mom!

Love the outfits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a black diamond head lamp but it doesn't have the head strap part. Mine is comfy when I have on my earwarmers but it kinda hurts without it.

Those outfits are the BEST! I love getting in to the spirit with fun costumes. Awesome socks!
