1 to 1,000

The ever AWESOME Running Laur (HERE) hosted a wonderful virtual race.
Never one to pass up a FUN virtual race I wrote down the temp 37F (2.8C) not too cold, but just frosty enough to see me breath, geared up and headed out.
Note the new shoes from Brooks, don't let the crazy colors fool you these are lightweight pillows. More about these shoes soon. I thought I would also give you a quick tour of the locker room in my building.. See the lovely fake flowers and industrial strength hair-dryer.. I know you are JEALOUS!!
Close up of the Brooks Green Silence out in Feb 2010. Brooks made me feel like a ROCK STAR when they sent me FREE shoes that are not even on the market yet!!!
Here is what Winter looks like just south of Seattle, WA on December 22nd on the running path near my office. No snow, no ice, just wet roads, COMMON!!
OK back to the running. I did a .5 warm-up and then planned to run the 1 miler AS FAST AS MY SIZE 10's WOULD TAKE ME!! I noticed a little stitch in my side during the warm-up, not a good sign. I picked a long straightaway, giving me the best chance for SPEED!! I have not done any speed work since before my 1/2 Marathon on Halloween and wow did I notice it. I felt my body slow a few times and was not in it 100% mentally or physically. So how did I do??
1 Mile= 6:48
Not to shabby for a Mother of 2, although I was hoping for a sub 6:30, with the IDEAL of a sub 6:00. I really was not feeling well at all.
I snapped a quick self-portrait and headed to finish my run. After my 4 miles I felt weak and light headed. I could not find my energy, hopefully this is not a pre-Holidays sickness!! Once home I still felt off, so I went to be at 8:15PM. I am feeling a little better today :)

How do we sign up for the 1,000+++ with Tall Mom club, I'm in! And I forgot to mention the last time I posted on your blog, when that thing that makes you type in a random code to prove you're not a computer came up my code was "runmel" as in Run Mel! It's a sign!

Great run! I am in the 1,000 +++ miles with you for 2010!

Today is my last day of 2009 at work also. Isn't that fabulous?

Eeek, I don't think I'll be able to make the 1000 miles next year but maybe in 2011. You are so stinking fast, if I saw that number on my Garmin it would mean it was broken:) Way to go!! And I hope you're feeling better.

I want to run 1,000 in 2010! It will depend on the whole injury thing but for now I'm at least going to make it my goal and try to achieve it!

runningcommentaries said...

I ran 1200 miles between August and November, so pretty sure I did! I'm shooting for higher than that this year!

Great job on the one-miler and those shoes look awesome!

Morgan said...

Those shoes are crazy looking!!!

True Story: I was cheering you on from afar about running 1,000 miles and got to thinking... I have no idea how many miles I've ran! SO I tallyed them up and let's just say... stay tuned for a 2009 recap/2010 forecast post next week! I def have my sights set on 1,000+++ next year especially after seeing what I did this year without even realizing it!!! :)

momof3 said...

WOW- you are awesome! The only time my Garmin says cool things like that it's because it's not picking up the signal properly...

And, congrats again on 1K miles. That is just sweet.

great job on the mile! I know that tired feeling after a run - not fun at all! Sign me up for 1000 miles in 2010!

I want to run 1000 miles in 2010. Thanks for extending this challenge to everyone. I'm training for my first marathon starting in Jan, so I should be able to hit the 1000 mile mark. I'm looking forward to following you next year.

Great shoes, rock star! And those fake flowers... simply amazing!

Congrats on the 1,000 - not at all surprised. Would love to join the challenge, but this turtle isn't...quite....there....YET! :-)

I'm thinking I might borrow your idea, though (and give proper credit for sure), and do a 500 mile challenge, for "the rest of us." :-) (Melissa, are you in? Check out the turtle blog!... We aren't wimpy at all. 500 is more than many others will do!)

Happy Last Work Day, Mel!

As of last week, I am over 1500 miles for this year! In the past seven years, that I've been running, I've never hit the 1500 mark before. Like you, it makes me happy to tell people that...especially people that think running is a crazy thing to do!

Count me in for trying for over 1000 again next year!

Hi Tall mom, I tried to post a comment before but it did not work I don't think. Ryan and I both ran over 1000 miles this year and we will most certainly be in for your 2010 challenge. I was thinking of a love on the run edition or a special couples division where we run a combine total or probably 3000-3500 miles. Either way, we will both shoot for 1000+++ in 2010!! By the way, I hope u bought that bracelet for yourself!!!!

Hey! I have no idea where we will end up buying a house. My husband's office is in Bellevue but I doubt we will live there. I am definitely going to do a bunch of Seattle races! I also want to do the 1,000 mile club...how does that work? I figured without any friends and no job I will be running quite a bit. My next marathon will hopefully be the Knoxville, TN in March...can't wait! You'll have to fill me in on what races are fun around there!
