Through the Woods

Stats for 11/29:
Time- 47:38
5.36- Miles
8:52- Pace
First 2.3 miles with Muscle Man and the Little Studs, quick stop to play at the park then run home solo.

Wow oh wow Welcome new Bloggy Pack members!!! And thank you ALL for your wonderful comments. Yesterday after weighing myself, I had a momentary pity party, it passed the minute I put on my spandex. Muscle Man loaded up the stroller and we drove to a local BEAUTIFUL park with a running/walking path. We run for about 2.5ish miles and at the end we let the kids play at the park, it is a very family friendly activity.
I am pretty sure some of the weight on the scale was water because of female stuff. I had stomach cramping while running that is not from muscles. I REALLY REALLY wanted to drive to Seattle and surprise Amanda at mile 8 and run with her for a while...but when I woke up I could tell I was not feeling well. PNW running Bloggers Amanda, Zoe and Kerrie all did great at the Seattle Half!!
Hubby and I talked about how the tables have turned...when I was first returning to running, after having Little Stud #2, on this path I would be gasping for air, begging to stop and I could not push the stroller and run due to crazy knee pain. Muscle Man made it look easy. Now 30lbs lighter and with mile and miles run I am the one who runs with ease. Poor Muscle Man has been stuck inside leaving little time for running. He had major pain...guessing it is from his OLD SHOES. After our run I went to the Brooks Outlet and bought him a fresh pair.
The Little Studs were awesome snacking on Carrots (Cheetos) and humming Star Wars. At one point the Carrot (Cheetos) bag landed on the ground, so I did a quick turn basketball move and was back in stride. Supermom to the rescue!!

These photos are totally posed...I am working on my next set of Seasonal pictures. Fall picture done!! Have you taken your Fall photo yet? We SPRINTED at the end and hit 2.3 miles. Thankfully the path ends at a flush able potty, we both had to go...
The Tall Mom boys! We played at the park for a while then headed home. I was not done running so I hopped out of the car with about 3 miles to home. I was tired, but I wanted to burn some extra calories. It felt good. At one point a lady, with her hair down, was being pulled by hound dogs...she was faster than me...for about 20 seconds..LOL.
  • I made it home, weighed myself and was down 3 pounds!! I know it is not real, but I will take it. We all have our days when we get stuck in a little pity party, playing with Polly Pessimism. The trick is to find your way out and not to get stuck in a rut...
How do you escape the Monday, or any day, BLUES???

Love the photos! What a perfect way to spend the day.

LOL at carrots/cheetos. ;)

Congrats on already shedding some lbs... you must have been retaining some water. I'm sure that number on the scale is much friendlier now. :)

I am having some Monday blues over here.... looks like another hellish week at work. UGH! I am just looking forward to CHRISTMAS VACATION and escaping my desk as often as I can for water refills, extended bathroom breaks, etc. I think I am going to slip out for a little jaunt at lunch too. 2 mile walk = 2 pts.

Have a great day, Mel! HUGS from your Ontario friend!

I love all those great photos!! You get the best pictures. Your hubby must be good with a camera.

Carrots?!? My kids like those too. Great for buying a little time in the jogging stroller.

Weighing right after a run. Oh yeah! I love the scale right after a good run. I tell myself it's real!! ;-)

We need a venue for addresses for Christmas...I know you probably have an idea how we can do that, right???

I am sure a lot of it was water weight as well. You look amazing!

I bet your boys love going for runs with you guys. My girls get excited whenever we go to the trail....sadly they have been doing it with just daddy lately.

Monday blue are so not fun, I would love to know the cure.

when i get the blues i try and think of the MAJOR thing that i am upset/nervous about and realize that it is NOT such a horrible thing. i put it into perspective, and think that i am happy that i am not worrying about shelter, food or someone close to me passing. deep i know.

I love carrots too ;) Love the fall picture of you! Glad you and your weight are on speaking terms again ;)

Please start a Tall Girls Running Club! It shouldn't be offensive...just a place for us giants to share advice. I've learned that running and working out is completely different for women of different heights. I think it would be a great place for us to share ideas! And that place your running in your pictures is beautiful!

Love the pics...that's a great fall pic! I don't know how people who don't run/workout stay sane...working out/running/hiking are my best remedies for shrugging off the blues.

Now I want some cheetos (I mean carrots). I just make a list and try to work through it on Monday. I am bummed that I was such a slacker this weekend because I have a huge to do list.

Congrats on your runs!! Looks like some beautiful trails nearby. You look great by the way!!
I try not to let myself get too down about things. We all have our ups and downs, thats just life. Buts if I do get a case of the blues I do something to make myself feel better. Getting in a great workout helps, new mani/pedi, going out with friends..all those things make me feel better!

I always weigh myself when I get done with a run (I did it this morning), I know it isn't real weight loss but it usually gives me a boost to be good the rest of the day because I want it to become real.

Oh man! That would have been awesome to see you at mile 8, that is where I struggle the most, you know me so well! :) I completely understand though! hope you are feeling better!

And is that a visor on your head? I wore mine Sunday and it worked great, but it wasn't raining either!

Great job burning the extra calories! you are back on track lady!

Aww your boys are such cuties!

That looks like such a nice pretty are to run. Jealous! Way to go on the 3 pounds, i would take it too. LOL

Man oh man as for Mondays I like to tell myself "it will be over soon" and listen to chipper music and of course spend all my down time looking at blogs!

I thought about you during the half because I saw this lady running with her hair down! I was like, Oh man, Mel would be so annoyed! But, really? How can you run with your hair down?

Glad you are feeling better about the scale. You should just go by how you look in the mirror because you look mahvelous!

As always, I love how you run as a family. We just put away our dualie for the year because the kids were getting too cold in it. I have a feeling next spring Bugs will be biking instead of catching a ride.

A good run followed by a good book always help my blues. I hope your day is going better.

I'm up a couple pounds myself after Thanksgiving and I'm itching to get it off. I just don't feel like myself with the extra weight, you know? Thanks to your post, I'm going to stop feeling sorry for myself and just get on with it! Thanks!

I think you look fantastic...in my opinion. :) Love the trail that you are running on, I'm jealous! The pictures are wicked cute too. Sometimes I feel like eating "carrots" (Cheetos), but I haven't had them in a long time. Hmmmm.

I'm in big time blues lately...need to get back to a routine and stop stressing so much over the silly stuff. Pics of the trail look so pretty!!

How do I beat the Monday Blues? Well, one thing is to log into your blog and look at all the amazing photos! Wow.

Another thing is to try to do what you did, put it in perspective and go for a run. But since I'm nursing some stupid knee injury right now I CAN'T RUN. It's killing me. Imagine Thanksgiving without running? I can't.

And, if all else fails, I sweep a bit of my favorite lip color across my mouth. Which is what I did today. Since I can't run.

How do I escape the blues?

1. Running (obviously)
2. Coffee or breakfast with friends (usually running friends)
3. Play my favourite music up loud and sing along (might not sound good but it makes me feel good)
4. Go to a dog park and watch the dogs party
5. Bake brownies/cookies/scones/cupcakes and share them (Hard to feel bad when people love you - even if it's just pantry love)

Those pictures are so great! I love the one of you on the bridge. Posed or not...still very cool. Whenever I get the blues I exercise...run, row, bike, whatever I have available at the time. I always feel better after.

I made the mistake of weighing myself this morning. What a post holiday weekend bummer! But, hey, it could've been worse. :)

Heather Forcey said...

Such pretty pictures. I sure wish I had some pretty trails to run near my house. Does an irrigation canal count?!

Right there with you on the holiday weight gain. Back on track today writing down EVERYTHING I stick in my mouth. I hope it makes a difference.

Monday blues? Runs help, but I don't run until late in the evening. I usually try to focus on one project at a time. That way I at least get something accomplished and the to do list isn't as long.

Ohhh... I love the new fall photo, and can't wait to see the rest of the seasons :) Don't worry about those 7 pounds, I bet a lot of it does have to do with that time of the month. I know I can fluctuate 3-4 pounds when I start each month, but a week later the weight is gone. You deserve to splurge on food here and there. Especially with as active as you are!

Great pictures! You live (and run) in a GORGEOUS place! I am jealous.

Scales are tricky. I never trust them when they seem to jump up too much. You'll be back to your ideal weight in no time (if you aren't already). :)

Cheetos/carrots are my favorite veggie!

I think some of the weight gain must have been water because you look GREAT in the pictures! Yeah-"carrots" are often a staple in our household as well! Still trying to figure out how to escape the Monday blues....
