Tall Mom is Going PINK

For a few months I have been TRYING to find a good cause to run for...Diabetes and Alzheimer's quickly came to mind for family reasons... As I did the research on Running for a Cause nothing really stuck. Then I Googled "Marathon for a Cure." And there it was a program to raise money for Susan G. Komen For The Cure....My first 5K as an adult was the Susan G. Komen Seattle Race for the Cure in 2008....that race started my addiction to running. That race inspired me to do more...if Breast Cancer survivors could do it, then why couldn't I do it? I set my petty excuses aside and took back my HEALTH!!
Today is October 1st!! October for those of you who don't know is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I toyed with turning my page PINK and really making a statement.....but that is not me. So here is my BIG Announcement..
I will run the Rock 'N' Roll Seattle Marathon June 2010 on behalf of Marathon for the Cure. I told myself I would NEVER run that Marathon again!!! My change of heart came when I saw the Rock 'N' Roll Seattle race listed as an official partnered race on the Marathon for the Cure Website. I knew this was the Cause I have been searching for (for 2010 anyway)... Below is information about Marathon for the Cure...
Marathon for the Cure, a program of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is a grassroots fundraising program offering runners the chance to join in the fight against breast cancer by running a full or half marathon. Marathon for the Cure expands the reach of Komen for the Cure beyond the 5k and offers distance runners and aspiring distance runners the opportunity to raise much needed funds in support of Komen for the Cure’s vision of a world without breast cancer while training for and running in some of the most elite distance races in the world.

To participate in Marathon for the Cure as a runner in one of our official marathon partner’s races, a runner must commit to a fundraising minimum of $2,200. There is more! There are many ways to be a member of our program! You can choose any full or half marathon you want to run and be a team member by committing to raise $250. Visit the Website HERE.

Any half Marathon or Marathon can be run for this cause which I think is AWESOME!! I thought I would run my half this month for the cause but somehow the "Frightfest Half Marathon" did not seem to fit. In the weeks and months to come I will be asking for your support and offering some FUN incentives. My hope today is that you WILL find a way to go PINK for October...
  • Next up on Tall Mom: High Five Friday, Product Reviews and a GIVEAWAY!!!
  • I was TIRED last night....but I decided to RUN anyway....I think I was pumped about Going PINK!! I ran my tough 4 miler which includes 2 BIG Hills. I ROCKED it 31:06 or 7:45 pace.

Awesome! I love that you're running for a cure!

I'm going to do St. Antony's triathlon in St. Pete in April for Team in Training to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Anything to put an end to cancer is great with me!

WTG! Great cause too. I'm debating running my first marathon with Team in Training next spring in VT. We do what we can to help end cancer.

What an amazing idea! Must feel good to have another marathon OFFICIALLY on the calendar as well. :)

Nice 4-miler, girl! Way to push yourself even when you weren't really feelin' it.

Now you've got my mind spinning....I'm in the middle of figuring out my next race. My mother in law is currently battling breast cancer, and we're all doing the Komen walk on sunday. A marathon would be even better!

Okay, first: a 7:45 pace? O.M.G. Is it your long legs or what? Man oh man!
Good for you, doing this and raising the money for the race next year.
Last year I donated a dollar to that same foundation, for every mile I walked, hiked or ran for the entire month of October. ;)

I said after my third marathon "never again." I think it's funny that so many people say never again and they fall for the trap =). I really don't think I will but I guess never say never.

Awesome!
