To stay warm you need to live in Hawaii!

I live in Ewa Beach, HI. It is on the island of Oahu.

When I did run in the cold, I use to take hot showers to warm me up after a run.

October 25th, I have a 30K race. It is the P.F. Chang 30k.

2) My FAVORITE way to warm up after a running event is SOUP! yup, how boring, but seriously, a bowl of soup is generally salty, water based, and hot - all things I need after a run.

momof3 said...

3) Richmond, Virginia

momof3 said...

4) Richmond Marathon, 14 November. It's my first marathon, and your marathon race report blog is my bible... I believe I have read it 3 times in hopes to glean as much wisdom from it as possible.

My Blog is:

but I also share a blog with a bunch of moms who like to run. This is where a lot of race reports get posted, as well as stuff we like and running frustrations we have. That link is:

1) (my #1 post didn't post the first time...) I think a good wicking layer that moves the water off your skin is probably the most important thing to me - I sweat a lot, so it's not impossible for me to be soaking wet in February if I wear the wrong clothes.

Marlene said...

How sweet are you?! I had no idea they made toe-warmers. Too cute. And I need some!!

1. Best advice for staying warm: layer, layer, layer. Not very original, I know, but it works. (And leaves the option to de-layer if you get TOO warm.)

Marlene said...

2. After a winter (or even fall) event, the key is getting into dry clothes IMMEDIATELY! And hot beverage helps too. :)

Marlene said...

3. Newmarket, Ontario (just north of Toronto) - but you knew that. ;)

Marlene said...

4. Niagara Falls International (Half) Marathon - October 25!!

5. I tweeted!! Will include you in a blog post SOON.

(P.S. I'm surprised you didn't decide on "3" winners!)

Stay warm on the run by starting off with throwaway clothes (as I learned for Chicago) and run faster! LOL!

Mylar blankets rule for after... so does a big ol' hug from your support crew... that are conveniently holding your after race gear pack.

The best thing for staying warm I've found is my awesome shirt from REI that has sleeves that turn into mittens!

I like to warm up before hand inside with some quick plyo moves but most of the time I wear lots and lots of moisure wicking layers.

Hmmm...I'm not running any events until Spring. I just don't have it in me to run competitively in the cold. (But these warmers would come in handy for sledding this winter!) My next "Marathon" would be the crafting kind, on Thanksgiving weekend...I am making everyone's Christmas gifts this year!

J said...

Outdoors and on the run I love to wear my gloves and a winter headband thingie. Covering the face is also key because it can get cold out there! I am not ready for winter.

J said...

At a outdoor event I layer up like woah!!! I get cold really easily if i am just sitting around so i need to warm my wool socks and put on layers as i can!!

J said...

Rochester, NY ...umm big cities near that? idk.

Suzy said...

Layer! It really is the best way to stay warm while running.

Suzy said...

There are lots of ways to warm up after an outdoor event, some much more fun than others. I prefer wool and high heat pointed to my feet in the car.

Suzy said...

The biggest city I live near is Albany, NY (the capital of New York).

Laura E said...

Thanks for the opportunity! I put on layers such as underarmor and then wear this socks, headband, and gloves! Warming up in your home first(like jumping jacks) also helps.

Laura E said...

What I love to do after coming in from the cold is change into clean warm clothing and sit in front of my small space heater. Hot tea is also great because your getting your fluids in too.

Laura E said...

I live in a small town in Nebraska but it's pretty close to the capital, Lincoln, NE.

Laura E said...

I don't have any atheltic events coming up but I'm really excited for the Halloween weekend coming up! My friends and I are going to haunted houses, watching movies, and handing out candy.

Paige said...

My tip for staying warm running is layering. When it's really cold, I wear a long sleeve technical shirt with a short sleeve technical shirt over it. The layering keeps my core warm. Keeping hands warm is another story...I have yet to find gloves that actually keep my hands warm...That's why this is such an awesome giveaway!

Candice @ I Have Run said...

I don't want to win (we are fully stocked on hand warmers), but I want to participate. My next race is a 4-mile on Thanksgiving. And I live in Utah. The closest big city is Salt Lake City, but I actually live south of it (by Ang). I will link to this on my blog!!

Love the give away!

Best way to stay warm? Generally I'm a wuss when it comes to outdoor winter running, so I stay inside. But I'm hoping to change that this year. I'm guessing layers is key.

Badgergirl said...

Warm up afterwards? A nice hot shower and some hot chocolate!

Badgergirl said...

Oshkosh, WI - Kind of smack dab in the middle of Green Bay and Milwaukee. Or just look for Lake Winnebago, the big ole lake in eastern Wisconsin.

body warm up--a full fat coffee drink and a warm krispy creme....yum!

to stay warm when running in the cold i wear gloves and a beanie hat. i also wear a long sleeve wicking shirt and layers on top! but gloves really help a lot, my hand are always cold and i can always take them off after ive warmed up!

The Jesse said...

i think the best way to warm up after an outdoor event is a long hot bubble bath - it soothes your muscles, relaxes you, and warms you up at the same time! grab a book, maybe some wine, and a bubble bath might just cure anything :)

I'm putting up a new post this morning about pregnancy and maternity running gear at http://www.decafplease.blogspot.com so this will be a great tie in!

Here it goes:
Staying warm on the run for me means gloves and some type of headwarmer. I like these two options b/c if you get warm they can easily be stuffed in pockets.

As you know in the NW, it gets cold but it's more wet than cold. I have the BEST running jacket from Nike that keeps me nice and dry (at least from the rain not from my sweat =)).

Alisa said...

Warming up after a race is all about the change of clothes for me. I change EVERYTHING, down to my sweaty sports bra and then I'm usually good to go. However, nifty hand and foot warmers would be AWESOME!

Alisa said...

Portland, Oregon (that is the biggest city in Oregon, hahaha)

Alisa said...

Oh boy, well, I THINK my next race is going to be Nov. 21st Run to Stay Warm Half Marathon but I may drop to the 10k (never run one) if I can't shake my cold in time to get in enough speedwork.

After that...probably nothing until the spring!

I live in Chandler, Arizona which is right next to Phoenix.

Christina said...

Truthfully I don't have to work much on staying warm. Living in Arizona the winters are awesome and I wear tights and a t-shirt. Sometimes I'll wear long sleeves but that usually makes me too hot. I do love to use my gloves and can regulate my temperature by putting those on and off.

Christina said...

After an event I do get chilled. I need a sweatshirt, a jacket, and long sleeved shirt.

Christina said...

My next event is the Phoenix New Times on November 8th. It is a double header meaning a 5K and a 10K with an hour'ish in between.

karry said...

I wear double socks and stretch gloves..over the stretch gloves I wear mitts to keep my fingers grouped together
