New ME vs. 5K

First off WELCOME to the new Tall Mom readers!! I will try to get around to see everyone..but this weekend is BUSY, if you want me to stop in on your blog please leave me a comment with the link to your website :)

This Weekend Muscle Man's Best buddy is in town from Michigan. Which means I am on solo Little Stud duty...sort of. Tomorrow morning I will depart ALONE 3 miles down the road to the High School we do intervals on for a 5K Run (Fun run/walk). Totally low key.. This is not the race that Muscle Man and I have been training for, that is next weekend. But how could I pass up a 5K, practically in my back yard, when the money benefits the Cross Country team?? I can't... I have been toying with signing up for this race for months, today as I took an unplanned rest day I knew I was IN...

My Last 5K I looked like this....

Easton was about 6 months old and I was working on shedding the baby weight. I signed up for the Race for the Cure 5K in June 2008. At the time I was 45lbs heavier than I am now, it is easy to hide weight on a 6'0 frame... I STRUGGLED to run for 5K. My goal for that race was to run without stopping to walk and finish in under 30 minutes, we finished in 29:33.
Above is what I looked like exactly 1 year later... And just weeks prior to running 26.2 miles!! AMAZING what can happen in one year. It Lifts My Soul to think about how much I have changed physically, mentally and spiritually this past year. And much of that positive change can be associated to RUNNING..

I got ME back! The ME I am proud to show to the world. The ME that is silly enough to think that I can shave over 7 minutes off my 5K time. ME...the athlete!! Off to bed to get my SLEEP. Tomorrow it is the the ultimate match-up
New ME vs. 5K
Who do you think will win??

Isn't running wonderful? People that don't do it, don't get it. I'm glad you found your "you" again. ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog already. I'm enjoying your blog so far and look forward to following your continuing adventures. Although I do have to admit I'm a bit jealous of your speediness, but I can tell you worked hard to get there. The "after" photos look fantastic!

You look awesome!!! I have to admit I'm jealous of the ability to hide 45 pounds. if I gain 5, my clothes don't fit (of course, I'm only 5'3" LOL)

Ok since I already know you actually WON the race I guess it'd be cheating for me to say it...

...but I do think having found yourself means that the "new Mel" has already won.

I started running with the hopes that I would lose some weight. I haven't yet...but I have started to find myself. And that is lovely...

And Mel - what advice do you have for someone like me who isn't that far away from the Old You. I did my first 5k in February and had never run before. I would love about 20 lbs gone...but haven't lost any yet. Any special advice? Anything you've done differently and really gained (or lost!!) from?
