98 Days

I realized yesterday that there are 98 days left in 2009. Less than 100 days and we welcome a new year. Last month I decided that I would aim for a GOAL of running 1,000 miles in 2009.

2009 Total= 740.97
Miles to Go= 259.03

To get to my GOAL I will need to run roughly 2.64 miles per day, or based on 14 full weeks remaining, about 18.5 miles per week. TOTALLY DOABLE!I am very excited to be on track to reach my GOAL.

Thanks to EVERYONE for your comments yesterday. I will be searching the Running Event sites for a Fall 1/2 Marathon and Spring/Early Summer Marathon. I have been a little frustrated because no one website seems to house every local race (1 mile to Ultra-Marathon) in Washington State. If you have a "Go to" site that you can offer that would be GREAT!

  • With 98 days left in 2009...what would you like to accomplish before the calendar changes? And what are you doing now to reach those GOALS?

marathonguide.com!!! most thorough list i have ever found... us/canada AND international, in case you need an excuse to hit up the caribbean. i don't have any difficulties in that department myself.

Oo I have to think about this.
I totally agree with you about not having one spot for ALL local races. I spend hours searching!

YAY!! You are totally going to make your goal and that is SO awesome! I wonder how many miles over 1,000 you will run?

I want to finish out 2009 with PR's in all of my races (a couple of 10ks, 10 miler and 1/2 Marathon).

I too, am on the quest for 1000 miles in 2009. I think I'm slightly behind you with 711, I think it's possible but I might squeak just under 1000.

I'd like to hit 50 swimming miles for the year, I think I'm at 30 or something now. I wanted to hit 70-80 but I don't think that's possible.

Wow! Way to go! I dunno about your state, but our go to running site is arkansasrunner.com

I agree with Lacey's comment! 18.5 miles per week is cake! You got it!

I was trying to do this math on my run this morning, but couldn't remember all of my miles from the first portion of the year. Off to do real math now to find what my 1000 mile requirement is.
You'll totally hit the goal!

I can't believe how fast this year is flying by.

At the beginning of the year, I set a goal of getting a new PR in all distances - 5K, 10K, 10-mile, half marathon and marathon.

5K - check
10K- check
10-mile - race planned for November
half-marathon - check
marathon - THIS WEEKEND

Wheeeeee!

You are SO going to pass that 1000 mile goal!

I'm originally from the Seattle area, now in Portland. I use mainly www.racecenter.com and occasionally www.active.com. I think racecenter.com is the better site, particularly for the PacNW but there are a few race organizations that only end up on active.com.

Love your 1,000 mile goal!! You are going to do it without trouble.

Here's a site I found when I was looking for events in Washington around 4th of July. Not living in the area right now I don't know how comprehensive it really is.

98 days? That's crazy! Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to start thinking about what I want to do between now and then.

Ok, so looks like this is the blog I need to be checking more often now! I kept thinking that maybe you were taking a break from blogging :)

So... I don't have a running goal for the rest of 2009, but being the stay at home mommy that I am... I would like to make a calendar and assign specific chores to do each day of the week. For example... Monday is Kids laundry day, Tuesday is plans meals for the week then go grocery shopping day, Wednesday is wash sheets and towels day, etc etc etc. What I've found is I put off all my chores for the weekends because it's easier to get stuff done with Kyle around... but then we don't get as much quality family time. So, if I do it little by little each day of the week, the weekends can be chore free and FULL OF FUN!! I'm going to make my calendar this weekend!!

As tedious as it sounds, I have scheduled sometime weekly for 3 very important things. Even if I don't succeed everyweek, I will try. You can't meet a goal without a plan. :) I have a big goal I am aiming for in Jan too, so that is looming out there for me!

I just love your quotes!!! Way to go on almost reaching your goal...I'm sure you will not only make it but pass it! I was inspired too by your goals and blogged about it!

98 days! Oh boy that means Emma will be one in less than that!!

Way to go!! 1,000 miles is freakin' awesome! And totally doable :)

My goal is to get signed up for my classes to go back to school in January!

1000miles in 2009 is a piece of cake for you!

You know what marathon absolutely ROCKS that is in the spring (early March)? Napa Valley. Fast, beautiful, great weather. I know it will be hard for you to travel, but keep it in mind in the future. Another one I did in WA was Whidbey Island. That was ok, but I hear they changed the course so it should be better!

You are doing great at making progress towards your goal.

I think I've hit all except one of my goals for the year already, so maybe I need to focus on the one I"m sucking at - weight training. Bleh.

Goals? Psh. I'll be lucky if I get my Christmas shopping done before Dec. 30th.

Good luck!

That is a great comment, and definitely something we should all remember daily. I love that you set a goal for yourself for the end of the year, it is definitely doable!

You are amazing! I will keep better track of my milage this next year, as I didn't at all in the beginning. It's fun just to know.
Congrats!
I'm going to have to check out Marathonguide.com as well. I hate not finding a good list of the races.

I too have a goal to run 1000 miles and only need 264 to hit the goal. I log all my miles on www.buckeyeoutdoors.com and they have a 1000 mile challenge. I can see what my mileage is and where I'm at compared to the other runners in the challenge.
