Tomorrow I run my First 10K. I want to RACE and maximize my speed. I have never really thought about racing strategy. I based my goal on my Capital City 1/2 Marathon time in May 09 of 1:43:39 (Report HERE)...but I really didn't RACE that 1/2, I just ran for the experience. I found this website with some helpful hints on 10K strategy CLICK HERE.
What strategy has worked well for you in the 10K? Opinions appreciated.
If you have posted about a 10K race I would love to read it. Please send me the link.
THANKS ALL!! Have a great weekend

Good luck - I would go at a more conservative pace for the first half and then pick up each mile from then on. Sprint the last part. This is my plan for a 10 tomorrow :) I will be thinking of you. Rock it!
Good Luck! I'd say start off easy and save your best for the last few miles.
Have fun and best wishes!! I don't feel like I can help too much on helping with a 10K race strategy, but I can cheer you on!!!
Good luck tomorrow, I know you will do great!
Good luck in the race tomorrow. Try not to go out too fast for a 10k but just check yourself and make sure you feel good. I have not run a 10k in so long. I am sure you will do great!
Good Luck!!! I have no advice for running fast, because I run slow :)
Whatever you do, have fun!!!
I have absolutely no strategic advice for you, sorry.
But I did want to wish you good luck. ;)
I always seem to go out to fast and can't hold up the fast pace.
I don't really have any sort of strategy but I am esxited to hear what you decide and how your race goes!!! I am sorry to say we wont be heading up there tomorrow. i decided to save on the gas and $10 registration and go with the local and free Bank to Bay 1K next month.
GOOD LUCK!!! You will do GREAT!!!
I've run 2 10k's and both of them were pretty much just at a steady pace. (Race reports under RACES at my page.)
I'd say to run a bit safe for the first 5k and then speed up for the last 5k, since then it's just a 5k! You have great closing speed, so it should fit well with your talents :)
I'm too late to give you advice, but if you're looking for something to read, here is my most recent 10K race report.
I think it's hard to strategize for racing a 10K. You can't start TOO fast like a 5K, but you can't afford to start too conservatively either (like a HM).
Can't wait to hear about your race!!!
Good luck...mine is to bring some music and don't get too distracted!
Congrats girl!!! That is awesome that you beat your A goal! So proud of you! And I totally hate guys like that. I make it a point to purposely fall behind at some point just so I can smoke them at the end. Competitive much? :)
