Easy Being Green

39:26- Time
Miles- 5.02
Pace- 7:51
Speedy run on a hot clear day. Testing new green shoes..

With my 10K looming I realized a few things:
1. I have not been very good about following Hal in my training plan.
2. I have not focussed on strengthening my core.
3. I don't like running in the heat

My plan today was to run sub 8 minute miles for 5 miles, and have a warm up and cool down walk. I set out at 86++ degreesm hot for me. The first few miles were GREAT I was hitting my pace Mile 1-7:27, Mile 2- 7:36..SWEET! I felt strong and the new shoes were gripping the road. As I turned the corner I saw something I have never seen on the run…I was tempted to go to Google Images and find something to resemble what I saw, but I just can't put that on my Blog…I am G-Rated.

As I rounded the corner, a darkly tanned man with a "So You Think You Can Dance" dancer's athletic build was glistening in the sun. The black haired man with splashes of blond highlights, was shirtless and wearing gray cutoff jeans booty shorts which barely covered his stuff. Gleeful on roller blades doing figure-skater-like circles and smiling. I cannot make this stuff up!! WOW!!

I kept my stride mesmerized by the pure weirdness, of course he probably thought I was crazy wearing BRIGHT green. There were several MALE runners on the path today. One of which ran with his left arm limp. He was ahead by about 25 yards and taking the under path…I was curious why he was not staying on the main road…until I saw the HUGE TRAIN slowly approaching.. Oh Thank you Mr. Runner I would have been Tall Mom Train squish :) I followed under the "7 Foot Clearance" unscathed.

My pace began to fade, Mile 3- 7:41 and Mile 4-8:00. I was passing running Men who stopped to walk left and right, FUN TIMES!! I felt strong but nervous about my 10K this weekend, Can I keep up the pace? As I hit the home stretch I realized I was on pace for my sub 8 minute goal. I sprinted it out… And Finished Mile 5- 8:33 but I swear that portion of my run has Garmin gremlins…

Overall 7:51 pace for 5 miles. Folks I am READY!! Love the green shoes, can't wait for the review! I am sending my Adidas Adizero Boston's back today, I'll review those later today or tomorrow , but I love my Adidas Supernova Glides I got last week. Still looking for a 2nd shoe and I love green!!

Also, GREAT job on your 5 miler today! I am so impressed with your speed girl! I am soooooo slow! Working on it though! I am trying for a PR this weekend at the 4th 5K race of a 4 race summer series, it will require sub 9:00 min miles
(8:51) to be exact, so we'll see....
Hilarious on the roller-blader, oh the things we see when we run!!!

I think I may be the only person who runs and likes the heat! My ideal running weather is 70-80, sunny with a slight breeze =). Ahhhhh! Maybe it's b/c I'm not fast =). If I was faster maybe I wouldn't like the heat =).

Great job on the tempo miles. I don't know a lot about your story, as I'm a new reader, but have you always been speedy? I used to consistently run 9:30-10:00 min miles but never went further than 4 miles. Now I've run marathons but my long runs hover in the 11:00-12:00 range. I'm really trying to work on my speed! I'm trying to figure out how long I should expect it to take to regain speed. I do incorporate speedwork but I should probably do more tempo runs.
